Milos Raonic v Sam Querrey Head to Head

There’s been an interesting rivalry between Raonic and Querrey with the two having met six times since 2012. Querrey won their first two matches at Wimbledon and the Paris Masters of 2012, but since then Raonic has dominated the proceedings. He has clinched all their next four match-ups including their last meeting in Indian Wells last year.

Raonic Showed Signs of Rhythm

Before the pandemic struck and robbed the players and fans of some potentially exciting tennis, Raonic had begun to show some kind of rhythm. After a season, 2019, in which he made it to the semifinal of just two tournaments, the Canadian shrugged off his Qatar Open opening ouster to come up with two solid performances.

The first came at the Australian Open where Raonic made it to the quarterfinal, winning all his first four matches in straight sets. On the way, he mastered Stefanos Tsitsipas and Marin Cilic as well and it looked like he could have had an even better run had it not been for meeting Novak Djokovic in the last eight.

A first round loss at the New York Open might have dented bit of that confidence but Raonic came back strongly to make it to the semifinals of the Delray Beach Open. And that’s where his season and his competitive tennis ended.

Because Raonic hasn’t featured in a single exhibition match during the break, which could be an issue going into this encounter, almost out of the blue.

String of Matches for Querrey in the Break

While Querrey featured in only two tournaments before the pandemic struck, he has been active since. The American played a couple of matches at the Grand Slam Tennis Tours MatchPlay before turning his attention to the clay courts of the Altec Styslinger Tennis Exhibition.

An appearance at the All-American Team Cup followed after this before he featured in 12 singles matches at the World TeamTennis, and while he won just four of them, Querrey cannot complain of too much rustiness, an issue his opponent will have to grapple with.

Querrey’s early part of the season had seen him reach the third round of the Australian Open before the 45th-ranked player went down to Tennys Sandgren in straight sets. That turned out to be his last tournament on the ATP circuit before the break.

Milos Raonic v Sam Querrey Prediction & Tip

While Raonic starts a favourite on paper, Querrey has had a lot of match-play in these past few months and should have an equal say in the match. If he can make Raonic work on the big points, he might even cause an upset here.

Tip: Querrey to win: 1/1 (bet365)
