John Isner v Hubert Hurkacz Head to Head

This will be only the second time that the pair will be meeting each other on the tour. They faced off last year in the second round at Washington where Isner won in straight sets.

Isner Playing First Competitive Match in Months

The 35-year-old American will be playing his first competitive match since the season was disrupted back in March. His previous match was his semi-final loss against Taylor Fritz at Acapulco back in February.

Since then he hasn’t played any matches on the tour and his only appearance on the court has been at the All American Team Cup in July.

Overall it had been a relatively impressive start to the 2020 season for Isner before it was stopped. He reached the semi-finals at Auckland and Apacpulco and reached the third round at the Australian Open. His only early exit was at New York Open where he crashed out in the first round.

It was a similar story for him last season too where after starting the season impressively by reaching four semi-finals, Isner’s form dropped off in the second half of the year. He did win the title at Newport but he suffered many early-round defeats which dropped his ranking to 20.

He will be looking to go deep in the tournament and get some wins under his belt before the US Open.

Hurkacz Looking to Achieve a Career-High Ranking

Poland’s Next-Gen rising star Hubert Hurkacz had a breakthrough season in 2019, where he qualified for the third round at Wimbledon, moved into the top 50 of the ATP rankings and won his first ATP title on the hard courts of Winston-Salem.

The 2020 season also started off on a bright note for the 22-year-old. He reached the semi-finals at Auckland and reached the second round at the Australian Open. But post that he suffered early exits from three tournaments back to back before the season was suspended.

He has been quite active during the 175 days season suspension, playing in a number of exhibition events like UTR Pro Match series, Altec Styeslinger and the Polish national championship.

Hurkacz will be looking to go into the US Open with a new career-best ranking and full of confidence. He would be eyeing a career-best grand slam performance considering a number of top players not taking part at the Flushing Meadows this year.

John Isner v Hubert Hurkacz Prediction & Tip

Isner is the local boy and has a perfect game for the fast hard courts. So on the paper, the American looks a strong favourite. But with no crowds to back him and lack of match time, it is likely to be a more even contest. The Polish youngster may just edge it due to his better fitness.

Tip: Hurkacz to win: 11/10 (bet365)
