The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 22-year-old Czech, and her Russian opponent, who is one year younger.

Bouzkova Enters as a Monterrey Finalist

22-year-old Bouzkova enjoyed success as a junior, winning the US Open girls’ title in 2014. Since then, her best performance came in the Rogers Cup last year where she beat Sloane Stephens, Jelena Ostapenko, and Simona Halep before losing to Serena Williams in three sets.

That same year she reached her first WTA final, losing to Russia’s Veronika Kudermetova in Mexico.

She has also won 12 ITF tournaments, the most recent of which was the President’s Cup in Kazakhstan last July.

At that start of this year, she suffered first round defeats in Brisbane, Hobart, and Melbourne, but Bouzkova then reached the final in Monterrey before losing to Elina Svitolina of the Ukraine, the world number five.

She again did well in Lexington last week, before losing to the eventual winner, Jennifer Brady.

Kalinskaya, Russian qualifier

21-year-old Kalinskaya won the Australian Open doubles as a junior in 2016, and, partnered by Viktoria Kouzmova, has been in the final of two WTA doubles’ events, winning the Prague Open last May after suffering defeat in St. Petersburg three months earlier.

In terms of singles, her most notable run on the WTA tour came at the Washington Open last summer, where she got to the semi-finals before losing to Jessica Puig.

She then pulled off a major surprise by knocking Sloane Stephens out of the US Open in the first round.

That form helped her break into the world’s top 100 for the first time at the end of last year, but her results in 2020 have been disappointing to date. She qualified for the Australian Open but was beaten in the first round and lost at the same stage in Acapulco and at the Challenger event in Indian Wells.

She did make it through qualifying in Lexington, but was beaten in the first round again, this time by Jil Belen Teichmann of Switzerland.

However, she has qualified for this tournament by beating two Romanians, both in straight sets – Patricia Maria Tig and then Sorana-Mihaela Cirstea.

Maria Bouzkova v Anna Kalinskaya Prediction & Tip

Bouzkova is the higher ranked of these players and had a good run in Lexington last week. She has shown the better form across 2020 and should progress from this match with relative ease.

Tip: Bouzkova to win in straight sets: 11/8 (bet365)
