Stefanos Tsitsipas v Kevin Anderson Head to Head

These two players have played each other three times before this with Tsitsipas leading their head to head 2-1. All of those three matches came in 2018, at Estoril on clay and at the Toronto Masters and Shanghai Masters on hard courts. Anderson won in Shanghai to pull one back after Tsitsipas had pocketed the first two matches.

Tsitsipas One of the Favourite

Sure the Greek world number six did not play in a single competitive and regular tennis match during the break. Instead, Tsitsipas opted to ply his trade at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown where he featured in 11 matches and won nine of them.

He made it to the final where he lost to Matteo Berrettini in a very close encounter.

So as far as rhythm is concerned, Tsitsipas shouldn’t have too many problems here despite the wacky rules associated with UTS. That, and the fact, Tsitsipas had ended the pre-pandemic season as one of the top players with an enviable record.

A third round exit at the Australian Open might not have helped but he eased to a title win at the Marseille Open in February, winning all his matches in straight sets. And that was followed by Tsitsipas making it to another final in Dubai where he lost to the world number one Novak Djokovic.

Tsitsipas starts as one of the favourites at this competition.

Anderson Stretched but Relieved

The South African former world number five is a fighter and that can be seen in various ways and at various levels. Take for example the fact he has had multiple knee surgeries and at 34 the temptation to call it off would have been great.

He hasn’t done so and in his comeback match, Anderson showed glimpses of that very fighting spirit as he came through in three hours against Great Britain’s Kyle Edmund. He won 7-6, 4-6, 6-3 to set up this meeting with Tsitsipas.

And there were multiple times in the match the going looked tough. In the first set, especially, Anderson needed to make a comeback from being 3-5 down to push it into the tie-breaker where he fell 1-3 down again.

This was Anderson’s only fourth win of the year too, having won a struggling first round match at the Australian Open after helping South Africa in the ATP Cup with a couple of singles wins in January. Anderson did not play at all during the pandemic break.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Kevin Anderson Prediction & Tip

Tsitsipas is 4/11 to win this and the only reason why we are getting odds these long for this victory is the Greek hasn’t played a proper, competitive match in a while. That shouldn’t deter him from firing out all cylinders and win this one.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 4/11 (bet365)
