Naomi Osaka v Karolina Muchova Head to Head

Osaka and Muchova have never played each other in a competitive match before this.

Osaka Hasn’t Played Since March

The last time Osaka took to court was for her Fed Cup match against Spain’s Sara Sorribes Tormo and she was a shock loser. It wasn’t a plain loss but the manner in which she went down, losing 6-0, 6-3 that would have shocked most.

Unfortunately for Osaka, that was in line with her performances in the season in the lead-up to that encounter.

In the two tournaments before that, Osaka made it to the semifinal at the Brisbane International but didn’t survive Karolina Pliskova’s test in that match. At least there she defeated three top players while getting to the last four.

At the Australian Open, where Osaka was one of the title contenders, or at least one expected to go deep into the tournament, she faltered as early as in the third round. Facing Cori Gauff, Osaka fell in another straight-setter to bow out of the year’s first major.

Osaka has won two WTA Premier tournaments in her career and has been a quarterfinalist at Cincinnati last year. Unfortunately, without any tennis in more than five months, it will get difficult to get tings rolling.

Muchova Faced No Issues in Round One

Having played most of her tennis during the pandemic break on clay court surfaces, it was always going to be interesting to see how Muchova adjusted to featuring in the Cincinnati Open.

Fortunately for her, Muchova was faced with a 133rd-ranked Ann Li, and while the latter fought hard in their opener, the Czech world number 26 came through in straight sets. She won 6-4, 6-4.

Earlier during the break she had participated in the TA President’s Cup competition where she won two matches on hard court surfaces before losing to Petra Kvitova in the final.

Muchova, who has one WTA title, which she won in Seoul last season, has a decent overall record over the past couple of seasons or so but when it comes to beating top 10 players she has just one scalp under her belt. Can she turn that around?

Naomi Osaka v Karolina Muchova Prediction & Tip

Osaka starts off a favourite as you would expect, bet365 offering 4/7 for her win. We think she should win despite her rustiness but this could go on to become a three-setter. A risk-free bet would be an over 21.5 games in the match, but if you want better gains, you could look at Osaka to win in three.

  • Tip 1: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
  • Tip 2: Osaka to win in three sets: 10/3 (bet365)
