Anett Kontaveit v Marie Bouzkova Head to Head
This will be the first time Kontaveit and Bouzkova will be facing off in a competitive match.

It was expected to be a fighting second round match, what with Jil Teichmann having won six of her previous seven matches and all of them in straight sets.
However, Kontaveit’s sizzling form ensured there would be no such shenanigans from her Swiss opponent as she cruised through 6-3, 6-4 to make the third round of the Cincinnati Open. Before that she had beaten Daria Kasatkina in a similar manner, not allowing her to settle down and taking the match in two.
The Estonian is now 18-6 on win-loss this season, and other than a first round defeat at Adelaide early in the year, has had some solid performances to show for her consistency. A quarterfinal at the Australian Open obviously takes the cake but what makes things doubly interesting is the manner in which Kontaveit has shifted gears between surfaces.
Her only tournament during the break was a two-match run on hard court, followed by the Palermo Open on clay where she made the final. And now, Kontaveit is into the third round with two clean wins on hard courts again.

Bouzkova Shocker for Kvitova
The Czech world number 48 was a rather long 2/1 to win her second round match against Petra Kvitova and when the former Wimbledon champion clinched the first set easily, those odds would have lengthened that much more.
Bouzkova is made of sterner stuff though and that was on display against her way more experienced countrywoman, as she withstood a barrage of winners in the first set to come back strongly in the second. Things went on serve till 5-5 as Bouzkova began to read her opponent’s game more nicely.
Breaking Kvitova at that stage and serving out the set with ease sent the match to a third set. With her opponent evidently struggling with the heat, Bouzkova remained as clinical as she was in the second set and converted her break-points whenever she got a chance.
That proved to be the difference between the two players, with Bouzkova outdoing her opponent by grabbing all four break-point opportunities she got in the match. Having earlier defeated Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets, Bouzkova now faces a more in-form Kontaveit.

Kontaveit is a favourite but with Bouzkova having shown what she is capable of, things could be slightly more evenly matched in this one that the previous encounter. What works in Kontaveit’s favour is she hasn’t spent too much energy on court in that weather while Bouzkova has been on court for longer. It’s a factor which could edge the match in the Estonian’s favour.
