Stefanos Tsitsipas v Milos Raonic Head to Head

The only match played between Tsitsipas and Raonic was one which was hosted at the Australian Open earlier this year. This came in the third round, and Tsitsipas had gone into it as a solid favourite only to lose in straight sets to Raonic.

Tsitsipas Quick-Marches to the Semis

It wasn’t turning out to be as easy a match as Tsitsipas would have imagined against Reilly Opelka whose big-serving looked like it was cause him issues in the quarterfinals. However at 5-6 in the first set, Opelka had to bow out of the encounter because of a knee problem.

Something looked amiss when Opelka needed to get his knee taped with the score reading 4-3 and while he tried to soldier on, there was no coming back at the end of the 11th game of the match.

What meant was Tsitsipas hasn’t dropped a set in the tournament so far, having beaten three tall, big-serving opponents in a row.

Kevin Anderson was making a comeback when they met in the second round, and was blasted out 6-1, 6-3. And John Isner then did what he did best by taking Tsitspas into two tie-breakers but couldn’t do too much more than that.

And with Opelka also feeling the pinch, it makes it a good chance for Tsitsipas to make the title-decider.

Raonic Saves Match-Point

On the one hand Tsitsipas needed just 11 games in his quarterfinal to make it through, while on the other Raonic huffed and puffed to enter the semifinal. The Canadian was down a set and later had to save a match-point against Filip Krajinovic before winning 4-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 to make the last four stage.

Raonic was at his fighting best, after he fell a set and a break down with his Serb opponent serving at 5-4 for the match. The Canadian broke back in that game to take the set into a tie-breaker which he won and then in the final set, faced his match-point while serving at 4-5.

The world number 30, who had earlier defeated Andy Murray 6-2, 6-2 in the quarterfinals, hadn’t dropped a set going into this match. And while he did fall behind earlier, the grit shown by him added to his win over Tsitsipas earlier this year and the one-day break between the matches should go a long way in aiding his chances.

Stefanos Tsitsipas v Milos Raonic Prediction & Tip

Tsitsipas is 4/7 to win this encounter while Raonic starts off at 11/8. We will backing Tsitsipas in this one, cannot see his pedigree lose to Raonic twice in the same year but will it be a straight-set victory – may be not.

Tip: Tsitsipas to win: 4/7 (bet365)
