Benoit Paire has tested positive for coronavirus and has been withdrawn from the US Open 2020. Paire, who had played in the Cincinnati Masters and conceded his tie to Benoit Paire after trailing 6-0, 1-0, becomes the first player to test positive for the virus from those participating in the US Open.
Paire of France, the number 22 seed, was to face Kamil Majchrzak of Poland, the world number 108, in the first round of the US Open with the match to played some time on Tuesday, September 1.

Benoit Paire v Kamil Majchrzak Head to Head
The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first meeting between the 31-year old Frenchman, and the Pole, who is seven years his junior.

The French number one has won three ATP titles, two of which came last year, in Morocco and Lyon.
Both of those were on clay, but he proved his ability to play on hard courts by then reaching the final of the Winston-Salem open last August, only to be defeated by another Pole, Hubert Hurkacz.
And he began 2020 by reaching yet another final, this time in Auckland, losing to compatriot Ugo Humbert.
However, after that, prior to lockdown, his form deserted him, and he failed to get beyond the second round of any event, the stage where his participation in the Australian Open was ended by Marin Cilic.
He has made the fourth round of Grand Slam tournaments in four occasions, most recently last year where he managed the feat in both Paris and at Wimbledon.
Last year in New York he was beaten in the second round by Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia in a five-set battle. Paire was forced to pull out of his first-round match with Borna Coric in the Cincinnati Open, although he was losing heavily at the time.
Majchrzak, second-ranked Polish player
Majchrzak, who is the second-ranked Polish player after Hurckacz, won the boys’ doubles in New York in 2013. However, since turning pro a year later, he has spent the vast majority of his time on the junior Futures and Challenger tours, where he has won 10 singles titles, the most recent of which came in Ostrava in the Czech Republic last May.
in terms of senior appearances, 2019 was something of a breakthrough year for him. He came through qualifying to make the main draw in Melbourne, his first appearance in a Grand Slam, and was leading Kei Nishikori by two sets before he was forced to retire with injury.
Then, at the US Open, again he qualified, and beat both Nicholas Jarry and Pablo Cueva in five-set matches before losing to Grigor Dimitrov in the third round.
he played very little in 2020 before the lockdown due to injury, but, in the first round of the Cincinnati Open, he beat Joao Sousa of Portugal, the world number 66 in straight sets, before going down to Cameron Norrie of Great Britain

Since reaching the final in Auckland in January, Paire has been on a sustained run of bad form. However, that cannot go on forever, and, against Majchrzak who is still inexperienced in Grand Slams, he has a chance to begin turning things around.
