Denis Shapovalov v Sebastian Korda Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players, who are about a year apart in age, but miles apart in experience and credentials.

Shapovalov Looking To Make Impact At Major

Denis Shapovalov incidentally broke onto the scene around this time of the year, back in 2017. A semi-final showing at the 2017 Rogers’ Cup with victories over Rafael Nadal, and Juan Martin del Potro, was followed by a second week showing at the US Open with win over former top ranked Jo-Wilried Tsonga.

The young Canadian has since had an up and down career, some of it due to his young age and relative inexperience. But, a new coach in Mikhail Youzhny in 2019, saw him make the semi-finals of the Miam Masters 1000, win the Stockholm Open ATP 250 and was the runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Paris Masters.

2020 got off to a good start with wins over Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas at the ATP Cup, but was followed by a disappointing opening round loss to Marton Fucsovics at the Australian Open. February saw another mix of inconsistent form, and after a good start this week at the Western & Southern Open, Shapovalov, lost his way against German Jan-Lennard Struff.

In the absence of Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer, the Canadian will be hoping to capitalize and make a mark at a major tournament for the first time in his young career.

Can Korda Come Out of His Father’s Shadow

Sebastian Korda is the son of former Czech grand slam winner Petr Korda, who won the Australian and French Open titles during his career, in both singles and doubles. Sebastian’s sisters are both golf professionals.

Young Korda has been on the junior tour for a while and made five finals across the ATP Challengers and ITF Futures tournaments.  He made his ATP main draw debut at the 2018 US Open, losing to American Frances Tiafoe in straight sets.

Korda did well to qualify for the Western & Southern Open Masters 1000 this week, but lost to fellow young gun Emil Ruusuovori.

Denis Shapovalov v Sebastian Korda Prediction & Tip

This is a clash between two players, tipped for greater things in sport. Though both in their early twenties, Canadian Shapovalov is more established and proven and is already in the top 20 of the ATP rankings.  Korda is still getting his ATP career off the marks and hoping to not be his father’s son only, on the tour.

The US Open is becoming a known entity for Shapovalov, but a different and new experience for Korda. Expect to see glimpses of Korda’s talent, but Shapovalov’s experience should see him through here comfortably.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in straight sets: 4/6 (bet365)
