Dayana Yastremska v Madison Brengle Head to Head

Yastremska and Brengle have never played each other before this in a competitive match.

Yastremska Suddenly Lost Momentum Against Astra

Things were going to plan for Yastremska in her first round match against Australia’s Astra Sharma. She had won the first set easily, and against a player who has generally struggled in singles play, looked like she was headed to a straight-set stroll.

Instead, the Aussie rallied back to first take a 5-2 lead in the second set, and then while she gave up on those gains, Sharma took the tie-breaker 7-4 to level the match.

The third set was one of the grittiest you would see on women’s circuit as neither player gave the other an inch. Yastremska had a couple of break-point chances at 3-2 and two more at 4-3, but on both occasions the Aussie managed to stave off her opponent’s challenge.

It was in the final set tie-breaker than Yastremska came into her own, by first getting a mini-break at 1-1, and then doubling that advantage at 2-4 on Astra’s serve. From there on it was a matter of time for the Ukrainian to complete the win but the manner in which the match went will make the winner rethink going into the rest of the tournament.

One of the youngsters to watch out, Yastremska would hope to close out such matches more comfortably than she did this time.

Brengle Turns Things Around

Brengle did not waste too much in her first round match, defeating Arina Rodionova 6-2, 6-2 to seal her spot in the round of 64.

The 84th-ranked American had come into this tournament on the back of a second round exit at the Indian Wells $125k competition in March, first round loss to Aryna Sabalenka at the Lexington Open and a qualifying defeat at the Cincinnati Open to Cici Bellis.

So while the 154th-ranked Rodionova wasn’t the toughest first round opponent she could have faced, Brengle knew she did not have too much form going for her. What she had was the confidence about her game and while she lost her serve thrice in the match, Brengle broke her opponent seven times to carve out the victory.

The best part about Brengle’s win was the lack of unforced errors – she made just four of them in the match. She would hope she can do something similar against Yastremska.

Dayana Yastremska v Madison Brengle Prediction & Tip

This looks straightforward for Yastremska as we had expected would be the case for her in the first round too. Looking at the over-games market in this one.
