Jordan Thompson v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head
The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 26-year old Australian and the man from Belarus, who is one year older than him.

Thompson is into the second round in New York for the third time, having reached this stage previously in 2017, and again last year. However, he has never been beyond that stage at any Grand Slam event and, if he does manage it, like Gerasimov, he will be in uncharted territory.
He advanced on Monday with a four-set victory over the world 87, Stefano Travaglia of Italy. He started well, breaking the Italian serve in the second game of the match, before the Italian broke back. However, Thompson immediately wrested the advantage again with another break and closed out the set. Thompson immediately dropped his own service at the start of the second set, allowing the Italian to level the match.
The third set was again scrappy with the pair swapping service breaks, before Thompson broke yet again to secure an advantage, and then yet again in the fourth to close out the match.
Thompson is an experienced campaigner, who has been ranked as high a s 43 in the world, after his one ATP final appearance against Adrian Mannarino in the Rosmaelen Championship last June, when he lost in straight sets.
he is currently the fourth-ranked Australian player behind Alex de Minaur, Nick Kyrgios, and John Millman.

Gerasimov Shocks Lajovic in Opener
Gerasimov is into the second round of the US Open for the second successive year after knocking the number 18 seed, Dusan Lajovic out of the tournament.
He took the first set after securing a vital break, but Lajovic levelled after a scrappy second, which saw both men struggle to hold their serve. However, a break in each of the next two enabled Gerasimov to wrap-up victory in two hours and 28 minutes.
That continues the form he has shown over the past year, which has enabled him to break into the world’s top 100 for the first time in a relatively long career.
Last September, he reached the semi-finals in St. Petersburg, and followed that up with a run to the quarter-finals in Chengdu.
He reached his first ATP final in Pune this year, albeit that the field was not the strongest, and then reached the quarter-finals in Marseilles prior to lockdown.
