Anett Kontaveit v Kaja Juvan Head to Head
This will be the first-time meeting between Kontaveit and Juvan as they look to make it to the third round of this US Open.

It’s been a year of firm solidity from Kontaveit and even when there have been those few early exits from tournaments, she has bounced back rather well. It started off with a second round loss at the Brisbane International and she followed it up with an opening exit at Adelaide.
What followed after that? Kontaveit stormed into the quarterfinal of the Australian Open where it took a fine showing from Simona Halep to send her out. And she followed that up with four successive wins in the Fed Cup.
A middling showing at Dubai was followed by an early defeat in Doha but she returned to the sport following the pandemic break like she had never been away. It started in Palermo where she made it to the final on those clay courts and should have gone on to win it too had it not been for a meltdown in the first set of the title-decider against Fiona Ferro.
In Cincinnati, Kontaveit continued with that very form to make the quarterfinals before running into an irresistible Naomi Osaka.
She won her 16th match of the season here at the US Open first round with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-2 win against Danielle Collins.

Clay Court Specialist Juvan Doing Well on Hard Courts
Juvan has won seven ITF career titles and all of them have come on clay. This season, she looks to have taken a conscious decision to play more on the WTA circuit, and that has resulted in a few solid results for her.
After losing in the qualifiers at the Shenzhen Open she won three qualifying rounds to enter the Australian Open main draw and a couple of them at Acapulco as well. At Acapulco, she registered her best career result when she shocked Venus Williams in the first round, and then quickly topped that in Palermo on the return of tennis when she defeated Marketa Vondrousova.
In the first round here, Juvan defeated Usue Arconada 6-4, 7-6 to set up this meeting with Kontaveit, one of the toughest oppositions she would face on current form.
