Keys off to a Strong Start

Since the beginning of 2015, there hasn’t been a single year Keys hasn’t reached at least the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament. She has made it to three Grand Slam semifinals other than being a finalist at the 2017 US Open where she lost to close friend Sloane Stephens.

One of Keys’ biggest strengths is her consistency, something exemplified by the aforementioned fact, along with having made the last eight of seven of the majors she has participated in since 2015.

Earlier this year, Keys kick-started the season with a final at the Brisbane International where she lost to Karolina Pliskova but she would have been particularly disappointed with her third round loss at the Australian Open. Her rustiness was on the fore in the first tournament she played after the pandemic break, having lost the first match she played at the Cincinnati Open but come the US Open and Keys was on fire in her opener.

Keys faced no break-points in her 6-1, 6-1 drubbing of Timea Babos but at the same time broke her opponent’s serve on five separate occasions. The confidence should see her soar deeper into this competition.

Bolsova Shocks Teichmann

Jil Teichmann has been one of the players to watch out in recent times and was expected to get past Aliona Bolsova in their US Open opener on Tuesday. Right from the beginning, however, Bolsova was on the money and rarely allowed her opponent to settle down.

Aided by the 42 unforced errors from Teichmann, Boslova got an early break in the first set and while she was unable to serve out the set at 5-4, she grabbed it in the tie-breaker. In a crucial 12th game where Bolsova was serving to stay in the set, she saved four set-points before taking it into a tie-breaker.

The second set was a lot easier and the Spanish 22-year-old moved into the second round of the US Open for the second successive year. A French Open fourth round appearance at the 2019 edition has been her highest point so far, where she had beaten the likes of Sorana Cirstea and Ekaterina Alexandrova as a qualifier to make the last-16.

Interestingly, this year, Bolsova had struggled to make it to the main draw of all the tournaments she tried, getting a direct entry in just one and losing her opener. All of a sudden, she is now in the second round of the US Open.

Keys v Bolsova Prediction & Tip

Keys should have no problem whatsoever against Bolsova despite her stunning win over Teichmann. A straight-set victory beckons for the American.

Tip: Keys to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
