Svetlana Kuznetsova v Eugenie Bouchard Head to Head
There have been three previous outings between Kuznetsova and Bouchard and the Russian has won all three. Their first came at Oeiras in 2014 on clay which Kuznetsova won 6-4, 6-1 before she doubled the lead at the Cincinnati Open that very year. In their previous meeting which came in 2017 in Madrid, Kuznetsova was a 6-4, 6-0 winner.

World number 34 Kuznetsova last played at the Qatar Open in February in which she reached the semifinal with wins over Iga Swiatek and Belinda Bencic and a walkover from Amanda Anisimova. When she lost to Aryna Sabalenka, little did the 35-year-old veteran know it was going to be the last time she was stepping on to the court for a competitive match in months.
The pandemic struck soon after and Kuznetsova has kept away from all of the exhibition matches, opted to play at either clay court competitions in Prague and Palermo or the hard court equivalents at Lexington, ‘Cincinnati’ and the US Open.
In fact, Kuznetsova is a former US Open winner and shown enough good form on hard courts in recent time but opted out because of the issues around the pandemic. She now resumes tennis on clay with the Italian Open and French Open in sight.
A winner at Roland Garros in 2009, Kuznetsova will hope she can get back into a good rhythm and become match-fit as she takes on a player who is herself on a mission to prove a point.

Bouchard Soldiers On to Round Two
A quarterfinalist earlier at the WTA Prague, Bouchard continued her march on during this clay court season as she looks to make a comeback into the top 100 of the WTA Rankings.
Bouchard was 6-2, 6-4 winner over Viktoriya Tomova in the first round, easily defeating a player ranked around 140 places ahead of her at the moment.
She will need a few solid wins under her belt like that now as a 272nd-ranked player but the Canadian does look like the work she has put in during the off season is helping.
A first round loss at the Prague Open (a second tournament played in the same city) might not have helped but a couple of qualifying wins here at Istanbul followed by an easy opening round victory gives her a chance to test against one of the best albeit a tad rusty player.
Kuznetsova v Bouchard Prediction & Tip
Kuznetsova, although a favourite, will need to get back into rhythm while Bouchard is moving well on court and has shown what she is capable of. The Canadian might actually surprise her opponent here.
