Lajovic Coming off a Nine-Match Losing Streak

After a very impressive start to the season where the Serbian won four ties to help his country lift the ATP Cup, Lajovic’s form has fallen off the cliff.

After reaching the third round at the Australian Open the 30-year-old failed to get past the second round at three consecutive tournaments. But since the season was suspended, the Serbian has failed to win a single match.

He lost all the matches at the Adria Tour and the Eastern European Championships. And went out in the first round at Cincinnati, the US Open and at Kitzbuhel. So he is desperately looking for a win and to end his terrible run.

Lajovic had a very impressive 2019 where he broke into the top 25 for the first time and won his maiden ATP title at the Croatian Open at Umag.

The Serb also reached the Monte Carlo Masters final beating David Goffin, Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev on the way. The Serbian prefers playing on the red soil and his best-ever showings during Grand Slams have also come on clay. Thus he would be hopeful of turning his form around and go into the French Open on a positive note.

Qualifier Fokina on an Impressive Run

This will be the eighth match that Fokina will play in the last 16 days and despite the tiring schedule, the Spaniard is on an impressive run at the moment.

He reached the round of 16 at the US Open after beating three higher-ranked opponents. He showed a lot of grit and determination as well considering that one of that win went to five sets and two of them to four.

At Rome, he has had to come through the qualifying stages where he has taken no time to adapt to the clay courts. After dropping the first set of the opening qualifying round, the 21-year-old has won six sets on the bounce dropping only eight games along the way.

This will be the first time that the youngster will be playing at the event. And currently ranked 70 in the world which is his best ranking ever, he will have a chance to achieve a new career-best ranking with a win in the first round.

Dusan Lajovic v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Prediction & Tip

On paper, this match should be comfortable for Lajovic. His game is suited for clay courts and he is much more experienced than his opponent.

But the current form of both players means that Fokina will fancy his chances. The only concern for the Spaniard would be the amount of game time he has had recently. His schedule has been relentless and fatigue could play a part in the match. Lajovic will eventually get through and break his losing run.

Tip: Lajovic to win in three sets: 3/1 (bet365)
