Ekaterina Alexandrova v Katerina Siniakova Head to Head

There have been five matches played between Alexandrova and Siniakova, all of which have come on the tour. Alexandrova leads 3-2, which includes a win at the Shenzhen Open earlier this year.

They have met twice on clay too and it’s 1-1 on that count, both matches going to three sets. In short, not much to choose between the two as far as their rivalry is concerned.

Alexandrova Gets a Rare Win on Clay

A specialist on hard courts, Alexandrova has found the going tough on clay courts over the length of her career. More so this season which has been so start-stop that it’s become difficult to plan things around it.

It has been a post-pandemic season of trying to get as many matches and tournament under one’s belt rather than over-thinking the surfaces. Alexandrova, as a result, participated in Palermo and Prague on clay to resume her season, played the two tournaments as a part of the curtailed US Open series, and then flew to Rome to participate in the Italian Open – again on red dirt.

The results have been as haywire. There have been three second round exits and a couple of second round losses for Alexandrova, including defeats in the first round of two of the three clay competitions she has participated in. At Rome last week, Alexandrova was roundly beaten Elena Rybakina following on from defeats to Lesia Tsurenko and Fiona Ferro.

She had an opening round match here against lucky loser Storm Sanders and raced off to a 6-1, 6-0 win but her real test comes now, against a player she has had many a battles in the past.

Siniakova’s Played a Lot of Clay This Year

Other than participating in the Prague Open and the Italian Open before turning her attention to Strasbourg, Siniakova participated in a whopping eight clay court competitions during the pandemic break.

While some of them were played as exhibition matches alone, she reached the final of the Macha Lake Open after winning four matches as her top performance in those. It hasn’t seemed to help her too much though.

At the Prague Open, which was her first tournament on return, Siniakova lost in the first round to Tamara Zidansek and while she did win her opener in Rome defeating Angelique Kerber, the Czech player lost to Daria Kasatkina in the second round.

Participating for the time time at Starsbourg, Siniakova overcame Bernarda Pera in her opener, overturning a set deficit and needed a tie-breaker in the second. Now for her to show the same fighting spirit come round two.

Alexandrova v Siniakova Prediction & Tip

Alexandrova is a firm favourite here at 4/7 but Siniakova will fancy her chances in this one. At least to win a set.

Tip: Siniakova to win a set – Yes: 8/15 (bet365)
