Cristian Garin v Yannick Hanfmann Head to Head
The only previous meeting between Garin and Hanfmann came in an exhibition match at the Bundesliga tennis in 2018 and Hanfmann had won that in three sets with a match tie-breaker deciding the encounter.

Chile’s Garin is ranked 24th in the world and is a four-time ATP title winner, with all his tournaments having come in the last two seasons. This year he went on a back to back title-winning spree by claiming the Cordoba and Rio titles, following on from his trophies at Houston and Munich last season.
Unfortunately though, Garin has been slow off the blocks following the resumption of tennis.
Not at his best on hard court surfaces anyway, Garin lost in the first round at the Cincinnati Open and then fell to Mikhail Kukushkin in the second round at the US Open. Things were expected to turn around when Garin took to court on clay, featuring at the Rome Masters but he was drawn to take on Borna Coric first up.
And Coric ran away to a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Garin leaving him with a 1-3 win-loss record since resumption.
Which is why it would have pleased Garin no ends when he was able to send Kei Nishikori packing in straight sets the way he did – winning 6-0, 6-3 to make it to the second round.

Hanfmann Shocks Monfils
A part of our prediction for Hanfmann’s first round match was it was not going to be easy for Gael Monfils, the much fancied top-10 player. What we definitely did not consider could happen was Hanfmann trouncing Monfils 6-4, 6-3 to move into the second round.
This is despite Hanfmann’s absolutely rollicking performance in the previous tournament he had played, at Kitzbuhel. Helped by the absence of some of the top players, Hanfmann went on a winning spree, taking down two qualifying opponents, before beating the likes of Alexander Bublik, Dusan Lajovic and Laslo Djere to make it to the final.
And while he lost to Miomir Kecmanovic in the title-decider, it was enough to propel him back to his current 96th in the world – the German’s career-best ranking. Can he now surprise one of the better clay-courters around too or will his solid run end here?
Garin v Hanfmann Prediction and Tip
Garin is the obvious favourite and we think he should win this despite Hanfmann’s solidity in recent times. May be in three sets.
