Confident Brady Hoping to Improve French Open Display

Brady is the new world number 25, having come up with a sterling set of results in recent times to get that far up in the rankings. A title win at the Lexington Open was her maiden victory on the WTA tour, and while she lost her opener at the Cincinnati Open, it did not deter her too much from the manner in which went about her business at the US Open.

Wins over Cici Bellis, Caroline Garcia, Angelique Kerber and Yulia Putintseva took her to the semifinal, Brady went down fighting in three sets to the eventual winner Naomi Osaka. Those previous round wins had all been straight-setters with Brady having not dropped more than four games in any of the set.

It’s a different matter here though. Clay isn’t Brady’s most preferred surface and she didn’t even participate in any of the clay court competitions played in Europe, including the Italian Open.

At the French Open too, Brady’s performances haven’t been too much to write home about – but they have shown an improving trend. A qualifier loss in 2016, an opening defeat in 2017 and a couple of second round losses in 2018 and 2019, combined with the confidence of her recent results should help her improve on those results.

Especially because potentially her first toughie could be a third round meeting with Garbine Muguruza.

Tauson Has Seven ITF Titles at 17

She is all of 17 but Tauson, ranked 187th in the world, is already a holder of seven titles on the ITF circuit. Her most recent one came last month in Oeiras on clay – her first victory on red dirt.

Having also played in junior Grand Slam competitions, Tauson was a winner of the 2019 Australian Open girls singles title, and for three years running has won the Danish Tennis Player of the season prize.

Her results on the ITF circuit have helped her jump from 863rd in the world in 2018 to her current top-200 ranking – which is also her career-best. And with three wins in the qualifiers – including against the 130th-ranked Elisabetta Cocciaretto – ensuring her a maiden place in the main draw of a Grand Slam, Tauson can be expected to climb up the rankings irrespective of the result here.

Can the right-handed Dane who has said in the past she loves playing on clay surprise Brady?

Brady v Tauson Prediction and Tip

It’s interesting to note that despite Tauson playing in her first maiden main draw at a Grand Slam, Brady is not an overwhelming favourite to win this – starting at 4/11. It could be something to do with Brady’s lack of clay court practice, but remains cautious punt from our end too.

Tip: Brady to win: 4/11 (bet365)
