Stefano Travaglia v Pablo Andujar Head to Head

The pair have played twice before, and the head to head record is one win each. Travaglia won a second-round match in Cordoba in three sets in 2018, but Andujar was victorious in the semi-final of the Challenger event in Prostejov in the Czech Republic two months ago.

Both matches took place on clay.

Travaglia Glad to be Back on Clay

Travaglia has never won a senior ATP title, but he has enjoyed a great deal of success on the junior tours, where he has won 23 events, all of them on clay.

He has been in one Challenger final this year, the tournament in Bendigo, Australia played on hard courts, where he eventually lost to the American Steve Johnson.

After that though he endured a terrible run in 2020, losing in the first round in Melbourne, Pune and Marseille prior to lockdown, and then failing to qualify for Cincinnati on the return of the sport. He subsequently suffered another first-round defeat in New York.

Back though on his favourite surface of clay again, he enjoyed two encouraging results against higher ranked players at the Rome Masters, Taylor Fritz and Borna Coric, before his run was eventually ended by compatriot Matteo Berrettini.

He has never been beyond the first round in Paris.

Andujar, A Spanish Clay Court Player

Now 34, Andujar has been a pro since 2004, and, in his career to date, he has been in 9 ATP finals, winning most recently in Morocco in April 2018. That was the second time he had won the Grand Prix Hassan II, and he has subsequently been a finalist there last year, losing to Benoit Paire.

All of those finals were on clay, as have all 26 of his finals on the Challenger and Futures tours, where he has won 13 titles.  Most recently he went on to win that event in Prostejov, beating Kamil Majchrzak of Poland in the final and successfully defending the title he had won the previous year.

His best run in a Masters event came in Madrid in 2015, when he reached the semi-final only to lose to compatriot Rafael Nadal. Given his record on clay, it is perhaps surprising he has never been beyond the third round in Paris, and he lost at the first-round stage both in 2018 and again last year.

Travaglia v Andujar Prediction and Tip

This is a tight match to call between the two clay court specialists, with their head to head record being equal. However, given that the Spaniard got the better of the Italian in a Challenger tournament just two months ago, that may just give him the edge.

Tip: Andujar to win: 4/5 (bet365)
