Felix Auger-Aliassime v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head
This will be a second meeting between the two, with Nishioka leading 1-0, having won a dramatic three-setter at Indian Wells in the Round of 32 in 2019. They also met once at a lower tier in 2015 with the Japanese winning that in three as well.

One of the NextGen stars of the ATP Tour, Felix Auger-Aliassime is only 20 and has already got the world talking about him.
A boy’s singles finalist at the French Open in 2016 and winner of the U.S. Open junior title the very same year, Auger-Aliassime made a serious impact on the tour as an 18-year old in 2019, becoming the youngest player to reach an ATP 500 final at the Rio Open, where he finished runner-up to Laslo Djere.
He followed it up with a run to the semifinals of the Miami Open, becoming the youngest ever player to reach the last four in the history of the tournament.
Yet to win a tour title, Auger-Aliassime has already played in five finals, including two in 2020. The Canadian was beaten by Gael Monfils in the Rotterdam Open final in February, and then defeated by Stefanos Tsitsipas in the Open 13 title clash the very next week.
This is the first time that Auger-Aliassime has made it to the main draw of the French Open. He was beaten in the second qualifier in 2018 and missed the tournament last year due to an injury. His other Grand Slam exploits include a run to the third round of Wimbledon last year and a Round of 16 appearance at the Flushing Meadows this year.
The 6’4” right-hander defeated Brazilian Thiago Monteiro in four sets in the first round of the US Open, following it up with straight set wins over Andy Murray and Corentin Moutet. But his fabulous run was cut short in the fourth round by eventual winner Dominic Thiem, who outplayed the Canadian in straight sets.
Auger-Aliassime, who is 17-12 in 2020, could once again be facing Murray, this time in a potential third round clash, but for that they both will have to find a way to win the first two rounds, and both have particularly difficult first rounds, with Murray facing Stanislas Wawrinka in the opener.

High Expectations from Nishioka
World No. 51 Yoshihito Nishioka is seen as a tough competitor on the tour and expectations from him have risen ever since his runs to the Round of 16 at Indian Wells and the third round of the Miami Open last year.
He seems to have a special liking for the Indian Wells Open as he was also in the fourth round of the event on his main draw debut in 2017.
As far as Grand Slams are concerned, the lefty reached the second round of the Australian, French and the U.S. Opens in 2019 and produced the best result in a major at the start of this year in Melbourne, when he defeated Laslo Djere and Dan Evans in the first two rounds to reach the Round of 32, where he was beaten by eventual champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets.
At the U.S. Open, Nishioka took the first two sets against Andy Murray in the first round, but the Scot staged a remarkable comeback to win the contest in 5. The Japanese, who has one ATP singles title to his name, has a 61-66 career win-loss record, but he comes into the tournament with a 10-8 winning record this year.
