Taylor Fritz v Radu Albot Head to Head

This will be the second time that the pair will face each other in a competitive match. Their previous meeting was last year on the hard courts of Los Cabos where Fritz prevailed in straight sets.

Fritz Almost Repeats US Open Showing Again

The 23-year-old American was serving for the match in the third round at the US Open a few weeks ago when he failed to see out the match against Canada’s Denis Shapovalov. What followed was a heartbreaking five-set loss.

That loss seemed to knock the wind from the American’s sails as he crashed out of the next two tournaments in the opening round. And he almost made the same mistake once again in the first round here.

In his first round match against Tomas Machac, Fritz was up two sets before he lost his way as the Czech qualifier came back strongly to take the next two sets easily. But luckily for Fritz, he managed to arrest that slide and see out the fifth set to move in the second round.

The world number 30 has reached the third round at both the Grand Slams this season so far. But his most impressive run was at Acapulco where he reached the finals where he lost to Rafael Nadal. One more win here will see him achieve his personal best showing at the tournament.

Albot Coming off a Really Impressive Win

Going into the first round match the 30 year Moldovan had not won a single main draw match this season. He was up against in form and higher ranked Jordan Thompson from Australia.

But Albot really played an excellent match and wrapped a straight-sets win in just over two hours. He only dropped seven games in the entire match and only faced three breakpoints.

This was a much-needed win for the world number 79 and this should finally give him the confidence to put a run of results together. His only prior win this year was in the qualifying round at Hamburg with a poor set of results having kicked in from the French Open last year where he lost in the second round.

Prior to that he had won a title at Delray Beach, reached the semi-finals at Montepellier and performed impressively at Indian Wells. But since then he has only reached one semi-final in almost one and a half years.

During this time he has played at 23 events and on 21 of them, has gone out in the opening two rounds. It will be interesting to see if his performance against Fritz was a flash in the pan or he can replicate that performance once again.

Taylor Fritz v Radu Albot Prediction and Tip

If Albot can match the performance he showed against Thompson this match can go the distance. Frtiz’s form has been patchy off late and clay isn’t his most favoured surface either. This could be another tight contest for him.

Tip: Frtiz to win in four sets: 3/1 (bet365)
