Pliskova shouldn’t have too many worries when she takes on Mayar Sherif in what will be the first match at Philippe-Chatrier today before local player Kristina Mladenovic takes to court for her opener. Mladenovic, who seemed only happy to return from the US Open following their strict protocols, will begin her campaign here against Laura Siegemund.
The world number one Djokovic will be the third on court and shouldn’t have too many issues against Mikael Ymer of Sweden, as the Serb begins his hunt for a 18th Grand Slam title. The ninth seeded Denis Shapovalov faces Frenchman Gilles Simon in what will be the final match on the main court for the day.
Over at Suzanne-Lenglen, action begins with Matteo Berrettini, seeded seventh facing Vasek Pospisil, before the fourth seed and Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin hunts for a return to form when she takes on Luidmila Samsonova in her opener.
Stefanos Tsitsipas, who had earlier made it to the final at the Hamburg Open last week will face Jaume Munar in his first round, while eighth seeded Aryna Sabalenka will hope to make a stronger clay comeback with her opener against a tricky opponent in Jessica Pegula.
Jennifer Brady had surprised a few with her US Open campaign and she begins with a first round match against Danish qualifier Clara Tauson, while Andrey Rublev faces Sam Querrey in his opener. Both these matches will take place at the Court Simon-Mathieu, which will also see Roberto Bautista-Agut and Veronika Kudermetova in action.
