Andrey Rublev v Vasek Pospisil Head to Head
The head-to-head between the pair is tied at 1-1. Pospisil won their first meeting in Miami in 2018, before Rublev leveled in a Davis Cup rubber last year.

Andrey Rublev has been one of the few players who maintained their early season form. Fresh from capturing a third ATP title of the year at the Hamburg Open, signs of jet lag and acclimatizing to the peculiar conditions of Roland Garros were evident as he battled from two sets down to avoid a first round upset at the hands of Sam Querrey.
The Russian went all the way to the quarterfinals – his very first in Paris – before Tsitsipas got his revenge from their Hamburg showdown. But remarkably, Rublev’s coach Fernando Vicente was as sincere as they come. The Spanish coach was largely unimpressed by his pupil’s performances in Paris despite achieving a breakthrough at the Grand Slam event.
As Vincente put it, only the most calamitous of collapses from Querrey prevented Rublev from extending his winless streak at Roland Garros and he questioned his professionalism, and his inability to calm his nerves in another topsy-turvy win against Marton Fucsovics.
Still, it is worth pointing out Rublev is only 22 and has certainly improved in more aspects of his game in the last 18 months. He is currently 29-7 for the season and is on course to qualify for the Nitto ATP Finals for the first time.
One thing Vincente will know, whoever is stopping Rublev will probably have to do it the hard way.

Pospisil Happy to Leave the French Open Bubble
Vasek Pospisil is never comfortable to play on clay, compiling a 1-19 record at tour-level on the surface throughout his career. It was perhaps no surprise to see him fall in his only match on the mud in the first round of the French Open.
Pospisil was beaten handily by Matteo Berrettini and quickly left the ‘bubble’ once his stint in the doubles was ended in the second round. The Canadian criticized the tournament organizers calling it a worse experience as compared to Flushing Meadows. He admitted how mentally he was completely out of it, once he realized outdoor activities and distractions off court were limited.
After playing some of the best tennis of his career this year in which he made the finals in Montpellier and the quarterfinals of Marseille, Pospisil had a decent outing at the US Open where he made the last 16. That run came on the back of staying in a comfortable surrounding, something he missed in Paris.
But now that his French Open nightmare is over, could he return to winning ways on the indoor hard courts of St. Petersburg?
Rublev v Pospisil Prediction and Tip
This is very tough opening round for Rublev. He comes into this match in excellent form, but Pospisil thrives on these indoor conditions. An upset could very much be on the cards, but this match will be on the edge.
