Kyle Edmund v Lloyd Harris Head to Head

The pair have met twice before, and Edmund has won on each occasion. Their first encounter was in the semi-final of the Challenger event at Indian Wells in 2019, which Edmund won in three sets en route to winning the title. Their next meeting came five months later in Washington where Edmund enjoyed a more comfortable straight sets victory.

Edmund Back after Missing French Open

Earlier this year, Edmund won his second senior ATP title, when he defeated the Italian Andrea Seppi to win the New York Open.

That ended a barren run for the 25-year old, stretching back to 2018, when he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, and won his first senior title, the European Open in Antwerp. He also reached the final in Morocco that year.

He has not played much since lockdown, although he did win the second version of the Battle of the Brits exhibition series of matches.

On his return to competitive action, he was beaten by Anderson in the first round in Cincinnati, and, although he reached the second-round in New York, his interest in the US Open was ended by Novak Djokovic. He was then beaten in the first round of the Rome Masters by Marco Cecchinato.

Edmund missed the French Open due to injury and will hope to come through unscathed in this opener.

Harris, A South African Qualifier Aiming to Make it Big

Harris is the second-highest ranked South African player behind Kevin Anderson.

He reached his first ATP final earlier this year in January in Adelaide, where he was beaten by the Russian Andrey Rublev.

He has also enjoyed success on the junior tours, winning three Challenger events, the most recent of which was also in Australia, in Launceston, last February.

Since the resumption of the sport since lockdown he has had mixed fortunes. He qualified for Cincinnati but lost in the first round to Taylor Fritz. However, he went on to reach the second-round in both New York and Paris, equalling his previous best showing in a Grand Slam event.

Sandwiched between the two majors, he failed to qualify for the Rome Masters, but then reached the quarter-finals of the Challenger clay court tournament in Forli, Italy.

Forced to qualify for the Cologne Open, he first beat local player Peter Gojowczyk, and then the American Marcos Giron, both in three sets.

Edmund v Harris Prediction and Tip

Edmund is the higher ranked of the pair and has won both of their two previous matches but it would be interesting to see if there’s any rustiness involved in this.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
