Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Marco Cecchinato Head to Head

This will be the sixth meeting between the two players.

Albert Ramos-Vinolas brings a 4-1 head-to-head advantage coming into this match. He won their first three head-to-head meetings, plus their most recent meeting in the 2019 Indian Wells Masters.

Marco Cecchinato’s only win over Ramos-Vinolas came back in a 2015 Genova Challenger.

With regards to surfaces, they have played on clay courts 4 times, 3 of which Ramos-Vinolas has won. Their most recent meeting in the 2019 Indian Wells Masters was on a hard court, which Ramos-Vinolas won as well.

Ramos-Vinolas, The Last of The Seeds

After a wild and unexpected turn of events in the second round, Ramos-Vinolas became the only seeded player left in the tournament. He had entered the tournament as the fourth seed, and although that ranking was a deceptive representation of his unsteady 2020 form, he’ll now want to prove why he is the only seeded player left and wholly capitalize on his ranking.

His start to the tournament was an impressive one. He controlled the tie against a rising Corentin Moutet, and only conceded three games to him in a match that he had been previously touted as the Underdog; indeed asserting his seeded status.

That dominant performance not only wowed his recent doubters but signaled that he could be one of the outsiders to go the distance and add to his two ATP titles.

And it would be unwise to think that he can’t go the distance, especially since he’s on a surface that the statistically fares better on. He has a 468-277 record on clay, his best performing surface, and also boasts a vast amount of tournament experience across different levels that would rival anyone left in the tournament.

But his next opponent also boasts a great amount of tournament experience and is also an aficionado of clay himself.

Cecchinato Gunning for Another Seed

Cecchinato proved that his best days aren’t behind him when he defeated Tommy Paul in the second round. The match, however, was closer than the 2-0 scoreline suggests.

Paul fought back in the first set, taking it all the way to a tiebreaker, which Cecchinato then controlled and won. In the second set, he drowned any hopes of Paul achieving a comeback by capitalizing on an early break point, saving his second game from break point as well, and then banking on his server advantage to win all the remaining games that he served.

He’s also shown signs of recovery from his drastic end of year form in 2019 that saw him suffer first-round eliminations in 14 out of 19 tournaments from May to December. Now, he’ll not only want to reach his first semifinal in a year and a half, but prove that he can add to his three career titles as well.

His experience and record on clay also not only makes him the favorite in this tie, but a favorite for the title itself.

He boasts a 310-162 career record and a 20-10 record for the year— which translates to a 66% success rate —which betters Ramos-Vinolas 7-8 record for the year. And with one seeded scalp under his belt, there’s no reason why he shouldn’t gun for another.

Ramos-Vinolas v Cecchinato Prediction and Tip

Ramos-Vinolas may have a great head to head advantage, but his 2020 form has been marginally worse than Cecchinato’s, which is why the Bookies have the Italian as the favorite. However, I do see him taking the match to Cecchinato, and his tenacity on clay guarantees that he’ll win at least one set against Cecchinato.

Tip: Ramos-Vinolas to win a set: 1/2 (bet365)
