Borna Coric v Reilly Opelka Head to Head

The pair have met once before, in the first round of the Cincinnati Masters last year. Opelka won that match in three sets.

Coric Beats Russian Qualifier to Make Quarter-Finals

Having seen off the challenge of the veteran Spaniard Feliciano Lopez in straight sets, Coric faced a different one on Thursday in the shape of the Russian qualifier, Roman Safiullin, a man ranked 199 in the world.

Coric got the job done, but it was by no means easy.

Serve dominated in the first set, but Coric forced the only break and took the set on his third set point.

However, the second set was much closer and Safiullin gained encouragement when he broke Coric early. The Croat then broke back, before a sequence of three games which saw breaks exchanged back and forth.

When the dust had settled. Coric had the chance to serve for the match, which he duly did, sealing the victory with his first match point. Coric is coming off a quarterfinal berth at the US Open and should should feel rather confident coming into this encounter.

Opelka, a Shock Winner Over Medvedev

Opelka pulled off a shock win on Thursday by beating the top seed and world number six Daniil Medvedev in his own backyard. That all seemed very unlikely when Medvedev broke the American twice to take the first set in little more than half an hour,

The second set was much closer and went with serve until the 12th game. That saw Opelka force three sets points and, although Medvedev saved the first two, Opelka was able to convert the third.

The third set followed much the same pattern and could have gone either way, with Opelka saving four break points on his own serve. In the end, though, it was the Russian who faltered when, in the tenth game, the American forced a match point which he converted to seal one of the biggest wins of his career.

Coric v Opelka Prediction and Tip

This is a tough match to call and, given their previous encounter went to three sets, there is a high probability that this game will follow a similar pattern. Opelka will be buoyed after beating Medvedev, but Coric may just edge this based on world ranking and experience of playing in big tournaments.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
