Milos Raonic v Cameron Norrie Head to Head

This will be the second meeting between the two players. Their only ever meeting came in the 2019 Paris Masters. Milos Raonic won that match in straight sets 6-3 6-2. Additionally, that match was on an indoor hard court.

Raonic Aiming For Fifth Quarterfinal of the Year

Milos Raonic will be aiming to reach his fifth quarterfinal when he plays Cameron Norrie on Thursday. He’s already done so in four other tournaments: Australian Open, Cincinnati Masters, St. Petersburg Open, and Delray Beach Open. In fact, in his most recent tournament, he reached the semifinals of the St. Petersburg Open and only lost to a rising Borna Coric.

So safe to say he’s good value to make the quarters again in this tournament.

And he showed that he’s ready to shine again on one of his more favored surfaces with his first-round win against Aljaz Bedene, a match that he achieved 17 aces in total. He dominated the first set, which he ended up winning 6-3, and in the nervier second set, he held his own and held his serve throughout the entire set, which helped him take the set to a tiebreaker which then tilted in his favor.

Additionally, he fares statistically better on hard and indoor hard courts, which is why he didn’t fare well in the Italian Masters. He has a career record of 95-48 on indoor hard courts, and an okay 4-2 record for the year thus far.

He’ll be keen on making it 5-2 for the year and also qualifying for his fifth quarterfinal. With his great tournament experience across all levels and a strong serve in his arsenal, there’s no wonder why the bookies have him as their strong favorite for the match, and there’s very little reason why he shouldn’t be able to match their faith.

Norrie Hoping to Carry on From St. Petersburg as Well

Before his quarterfinal berth in Russia last week, Norrie had struggled to keep some steady form throughout the year. But he showed some great performances, such as his stunning first-round win against Taylor Harry Fritz.

He was eventually knocked out by Tournament winner Andrey Rublev, but he’d have been buoyed by finally catching some sort of form in an otherwise topsy-turvy year.

That form shone again in his Antwerp Open first-round fixture against Emil Ruusuvuori where he won in straight sets in a match that he’d walked into as the massive underdog.

His confidence seems to have risen from his exploits in Russia, and he’d want to prove the bookies wrong again and make it to back to back quarterfinals in successive weeks. And as someone who’s recently shown to relish the underdog tag, Norrie will be match ready to break Raonic’s dominant serves

Raonic v Norrie Prediction and Tip

Although the bookies’ tide seems to be in Raonic’s favor, Norrie’s recent burst of form will surely make this a harder matchup than many have made it out to be. Raonic should still be favored to get the win, but with how tight and hard-fought I expect the match to be, the safest call seems in guaranteeing that there’ll be anything but a win in straight sets.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 12/5 (bet365)
