Miomir Kecmanovic v Frances Tiafoe Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between Kecamnovic and Tiafoe and both have won one match apiece. Kecmanovic’s win came in the Newport Beach Challenger in 2018 while Tiafoe retaliated with a victory of his own at the Miami Masters last year.

It’s not been the best of times for Kecmanovic as he has continued to struggle on the tour since winning his maiden ATP title. That came at the Kitzbuhel Open on clay and while he has played in two clay court tournaments after that, the Serb was bundled out in the first round at both.
If one thought a change in the surroundings and of the surface would bring a change in his fortunes, it only did so marginally. In the indoor tournaments he has played at the St. Petersburg Open and Cologne Open last week, all he has done is to win one match apiece. He crashed out of both the competitions in the second round.
At the St. Petersburg Open, he had gone in as a favourite against Cameron Norrie and made a comeback after losing the first set, only to fall away 6-3 in the second. A hard-fought win over lucky loser Sumit Nagal in the opener in Cologne was followed by a 6-3, 6-3 round at the hands of Adrian Mannarino.
Here, the second seeded Kecmanovic had an opening bye but now comes up against a challenging opponent in the form of Tiafoe.

Tiafoe in a Similar Boat
It’s interesting to note Tiafoe starts off a favourite in this encounter despite having a recent history which isn’t too different from his opponent’s. He won a title at the Challenger circuit, lifting the Parma trophy on clay but since then has won and lost two matches.
Tiafoe was a first round casualty in both, the French Open and Sardinia Open, results that sandwiched his Parma Challenger win, and he followed that up with a second round exit at the Antwerp Open. There he had overcome Dusan Lajovic in the opener before going down to Dan Evans in the second.
Starting out in the opening round here against Corentin Moutet, the 64th-ranked Tiafoe was off to a flier as he broke his opponent early in the first set. While he was broken back immediately after that, another break of serve in the eighth game helped him serve out for the match.
The second set went even better for Tiafoe, who got himself another early break but the difference this time being he held on to his serve. A repeat of a break took him to a 5-1 lead before he closed out the match 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round.

Tiafoe starts off a favourite here at 4/7 and given his confidence from having dealt with Moutet in the manner he did, we are tipping him to win this against an opponent gasping for form.
