Stefanos Tsitsipas v Grigor Dimitrov Head to Head

This will be the second tour meeting between the two players.

Stefanos Tsitsipas won their only previous meeting—which came in the French Open earlier this month—in straight sets. Additionally, that match was on a clay court.

Tsitsipas Rallies in First Match Post Return

Reigning ATP Finals champion Stefanos Tsitsipas came from a set down to win against Jan-Lennard Struff 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4 in one hour and 52 minutes.

This was his first match since his semifinal loss in the French Open at the hands of Novak Djokovic. He suffered a minor leg injury in that defeat which forced him to withdraw from the St. Petersburg Open earlier this month but had recovered in time for this competition.

This being his first match for a while, he struggled to take control early on. The Greek had a chance to break the German early on, but Struff recovered to win the first game. From then on, the games went with serve, but Struff controlled much of the early play with his big serving and powerful groundstrokes, which saw him win the first set after a tiebreaker.

In the second set, however, Tsitsipas grew back into the match. He converted a break point at the end of the second set when the German missed a high forehand volley into the net. He then won the next game and the second set subsequently.

He broke the German early on in the third set, which proved crucial in helping him win the match.

If he wins this, he’ll reach his sixth quarterfinal of the year. With five of his six career titles coming on indoor surfaces, he should still be a favorite in this tournament, especially if he finds a way of defeating former World No. Three Grigor Dimitrov.

Dimitrov Has A Chance For Revenge

Dimitrov will be looking for revenge when he comes up against Tsitsipas for the second time this month. He was outplayed by the Greek in their previous meeting in the French Open, but also committed several errors which proved costly and saw him suffer defeat in straight sets.

Unlike their previous head to head, however, this time he should be buoyed that he’ll be one of his statistically favored surfaces, as opposed to clay which Tsitsipas has a magnificent record on.

Ever since that loss, he’s also shown signs of improving, and recently reached his second semifinal of the year in the Antwerp Open, albeit he only won one match and received a walkover in the process.

In his first-round match in this tournament, he sailed past 18th ranked Karen Khachanov in straight sets after a nervy first set, achieving 25 winners in an impressive display that sent him through to the second round.

His match against Tsitsipas also has some huge incentives: he still has an outsider’s chance to reach the London finals, but to do so he has to win this tournament, the upcoming Paris Masters, and Sofia as well. For a player who is 17-10 for the year, that seems like a big stretch. But to remain in the conversation, he first has to deal with the Greek challenge ahead of him.

Tsitsipas v Dimitrov Prediction and Tip

With Tsitsipas at 1/3, the bookies seem to have completely written Dimitrov off. But even though I do believe that Tsitsipas will win the tie, Dimitrov has some good value and should be able to scrape a set off the Greek.

Tip: Dimitrov to win a set – Yes: 4/5 (bet365)
