Milos Raonic v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

World No. 17 Milos Raonic is 4-0 against the 53rd-ranked Aljaz Bedene. They most recently met a few days back in the first round of the European Open in Antwerp, Belgium, which the former won in straight sets. Raonic has dropped just one set in their past four matches, rallying to win on the clay court of Istanbul in 2017.

Raonic Returns To Action

Days after withdrawing from the European Open ahead of his quarterfinal match due to an abdominal strain, Milos Raonic will be back on court at the Paris Masters.

The 29-year-old big-serving Canadian has had a decent season so far. He has a 19-8 win-loss record, which includes a run to the final of the Cincinnati Masters, where he finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic despite having won the first set convincingly. The Serb eventually won 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Djokovic had also ended Raonic’s run at the Australian Open earlier this year, but not before the Canadian had reached the last eight stage of the tournament.

A former World No. 3 and runner-up at Wimbledon in 2016, Raonic reached the semifinal of the Delray Beach Open in February where he was beaten by Reilly Opelka 4-6, 7-6, 6-3. He also reached the last four at St. Petersburg Open last month, but yet again he lost the contest after winning the first set with ease. This time it was Croatia’s Borna Coric who rallied to oust the Canadian 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Currently ranked 17th in the world, Raonic will hope to stay fit in Paris and start off well against Bedene. A winner of eight career titles, Raonic is yet to win a Masters 1000 event despite having reached four finals, which included a Paris Masters final in 2014.

Bedene Has Had Fitness Issues

Facing Raonic in the first round will be another player who retired mid-way from a contest this week. Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene won both his qualifiers at the Vienna Open but was forced to withdraw from his first-round match against Dan Evans because of a thigh injury. Bedene was down 3-6, 5-4 when he retired.

Ranked 53rd in the world, the 31-year-old is 10-11 this year. This will be the second time that he will feature in the main draw at Paris Masters. He reached the second round of the tournament in 2015. He has never gone past the third round of a Masters 1000 event.

This year, at Roland Garros, Bedene matched his best-ever showing at the French Open, winning the first two rounds of the event for the second time in his career. But in that event as well he was forced to retire mid-way from his third-round match against Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Earlier, Bedene had beaten Tsitsipas in the Round of 16 at Rotterdam to reach his only quarterfinal of the year, where he was beaten by Felix Auger Aliassime.

The winner of the Raonic-Bedene contest will face either Tennys Sandgren or wildcard Pierre-Hughes Herbert in the next round.

Milos Raonic v Aljaz Bedene Prediction and Tip

Both players are coming off injuries, so it will be interesting to see who is the fitter of the two. Given Raonic’s experience and his form this year, the Canadian should win this in straight sets.

Tip: Raoni to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
