Richard Gasquet v Taylor Harry Fritz Head to Head

This will be the second time that the pair will face each other in a competitive match. Their only prior meeting was in Lyon last year but Gasquet had to retire due to a back problem just one game into the match. They also played each other at the Ultimate Tennis Showdown earlier this year.

Two Months Since Gasquet Last Won a Main Draw Match

The 34-year-old French veteran has been picking and choosing the events these days in order to prolong his career. He did start the season quite brightly where he reached the quarter-finals at Montepellier and Dubai after skipping the Australian Open. But as the season has gone on, his form has suffered quite a bit. His overall record since Dubai in ATP tour matches is just two wins from seven games.

He did play quite a lot of Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS) matches in the second half of the year though. In fact across, three UTS events this season, he has played 17 games. But when it comes to competing on the tour, he is struggling big time. It feels that, despite a bright start to this year, he is yet to fully get the confidence back in his body after his groin surgery last year.

The Frenchman would be looking to take confidence from his win over Fritz in the UTS 3 a few weeks ago. Even though the nature of the event was very much different with shorter matches and a sudden death tiebreaker, it would be something that Gasquet would take a lot of heart from.

Fritz 3-7 In Last Ten Matches

Fritz is one of those players, who lost all the momentum they had when the season was halted earlier this year. The 23-year-old American had performed admirably at the start of the season making the third round at the Australian Open and followed it with by a dream run at Acapulco.

The American reached the final in Mexico and beat four players higher than him in the ranking.

He did ultimately lose to Rafael Nadal but as a result of that run, but reached his career-high ranking of 24.

But then the season was suspended and since it has restarted, the American has just not got going. He did reasonably well by winning one match at Cincinnati and then reaching the third round at the Flushing Meadows. But since then he has been on a poor run of results. A couple of opening-round exits on clay was followed by just one solitary win in the month of October at Antwerp.

Fritz is a former world number one in the juniors and also won his maiden title at Eastbourne last year. Despite a rough couple of months, he is still number 27 in the world and a strong showing this week will do his confidence a world of good.

Gasquet v Fritz Prediction and Tip

Even though Gasquet is playing in home conditions, Fritz will start the match as the favourite. Fritz has a very strong serve along with great groundstrokes. He will enjoy the quick conditions in Paris and should go through comfortably.

Tip: Fritz to win in straight sets: 11/8 (bet365)
