Daniil Medvedev v Alex de Minaur Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between the two players.

Daniil Medvedev brings a perfect head-to-head record, having won all of their two previous meetings. He did so in the 2018 Winston-Salem Open on a hard court, and the 2018 Sydney International on a hard court as well.

Medvedev Aiming For Fifth Quarter-Final Of The Year

Daniil Medvedev will be hoping to reach his fifth quarter-final of the year when he takes on Alex De Minaur in their third-round fixture. He did so in Marseille as well as in the Cincinnati, Vienna, and Us Open; his best result this year coming in the Us Open, where he made it to the semi-final of the competition only to lose to eventual winner Dominic Thiem.

In the Paris Masters, he received a bye in the first round due to his third-seeded status. He came into the second round against Kevin Anderson in good spirits. Anderson, too, was coming in in good spirits and form, having beaten Medvedev recently in Vienna to reach that tournament’s semi-final.

The two began strong, with each player recovering break points early on in the first set. The match, then, went with serve until a tie-break was needed to separate them. Medvedev was 5-2 up in the tie-break when Anderson was sadly forced to retire for the second time in four days, sending Medvedev through and giving the Russian a bittersweet victory.

Medvedev will now be up against a player that he is up 4-1 in total sets played, with a crucial place in the quarters up for grabs.

De Minaur 6-1 Up On Past Two Tournaments

After first-round eliminations in Paris and Rome, both of which were on his unfavored surface, the Australian had his best tournament of the tour when he reached the final of the Antwerp Open. Despite a second-set rally in that final, he lost to favorite Ugo Humbert in straight sets.

He seems to have recovered from that loss with good recent performances in Paris. The 21-year-old kicked off the tournament in great style, defeating Stefano Travaglia in straight sets. Next up for him was an in-form Lorenzo Sonego.

Against the Italian, he capitalized on his sole two break points in the first set, one of which came at match point. In the second set, after failing to capitalize on two break points mid-set, he avoided a tie-break by breaking his opponent in the match’s crucial game, which came at match point.

With his strong form, he now faces an uphill task in Medvedev but should be buoyed as he goes into the tie.

Medvedev v De Minaur Prediction And Tip

Medvedev is the favorite, but for two in-form players clashing, I think that it will be a close one. Therefore, expect the winner to prove himself in a third set.

Tip: Match to have three sets: 6/4 (bet365)
