Daniil Medvedev v Diego Schwartzman Head to Head

This will be the fourth tour meeting between the two players.

Daniil Medvedev brings a perfect head-to-head record, having won all of their three previous meetings. He did so in the 2020 ATP Cup on a hard court, in the 2019 Queen’s Club Championships on a grass court, and in the 2018 Japan Open on an indoor hard court.

With regards to total sets played against each other, Medvedev has only ever conceded one set to Schwartzman, giving him a 6-1 record.

Medvedev Comes Back Against De Minaur

Daniil Medvedev came back from a set down to beat Alex de Minaur, giving him qualification to his fifth quarter-final of the year.

After receiving a bye in the first round and only playing one set against Kevin Anderson, it was finally time for the Russian to truly shine. He played a high-quality third-round match with the Australian, probably his best of the year to date.

From the onset, it was always going to be an interesting tie, especially for two players with low spins. Medvedev started strongly, breaking his opponent in the first game and then going on to rescue a break point to take a 2-0 lead. De Minaur fought back, breaking the Russian once mid-set and then at the end of the set to gift him the first set.

Medvedev, however, shone in the second and third set, both of which he won 6-2. He achieved an 85% first serve rate in both those sets, notched eight aces, and didn’t give De Minaur any break points. Additionally, he converted all but one of his five break points.

He now goes into the quarter-final in a big match for him. A win against Schwartzman would not only give him his second semi of the year, but he’ll overtake Roger Federer on the ATP rankings as well.

Schwartzman One Win Away From London

Argentina’s Diego Schwartzman made light work of Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets, beating the Spaniard 6-1, 6-1 in an hour. That win puts Schwartzman at a strong place in the race for London, as he’s now only one win away to qualify off his own racket.

Additionally, it will be his first time competing in the competition’s quarters, his previous best berth in the competition being a third-round finish.

He started the match against Fokina on the back foot, having to rescue four break points in the tie’s first game. After recovering the first game, he then broke his opponent in the subsequent one, which gave him the momentum to control the match.

In total he converted 5/6 of his break points, giving him an 83% conversion rate, which proved key in helping him seal the tie in such a short amount of time.

With the race for London firmly in his control, he’ll have a point to prove against one of his foes in the quarter-finals.

Medvedev v Schwartzman Prediction And Tip

At no surprise, Medvedev is the favorite at 4/9. He holds a great head-to-head record, and his playstyle seems to favor him in this matchup.

However, Schwartzman’s form coming into this should not be overlooked. He’s played some great tennis since the break which made him reach finals in Cologne and Rome, and the semi-final of the French Open. Therefore, I expect the Argentine to offer some form of resistance, and, at the very least, win a set in the match.

Tip: Schwartzman to win a set: 4/6 (bet365)
