Sabalenka Makes it Seven in a Row

Sabalenka’s played seven matches indoors this season and is undefeated across all seven. In fact she had lost a set apiece in her first two of these seven matches but since then, Sabalenka is yet to drop a set.

And that record extended to her fifth match in a row when Sabalenka registered a 6-3, 3-3 win over Oceane Dodin in her quarterfinal, with her opponent retiring from the encounter at that stage.

Interestingly, Sabalenka was a break down in the first set of this match before breaking Dodin back to level up at 2-2. A few games later, Sabalenka then broke Dodin yet again and served out the set to love.

Things looked to be moving to serve in the second set when Dodin found herself unable to continue because of her ankle issues and had to retire from the encounter.

This followed Sabalenka’s victories against Jasmine Paolini and Stefanie Voegele in her first two rounds and she is a huge favourite to register her eighth successive win indoors.

Krejcikova Hands Sasnovich a Drubbing

While Krejcikova had been stretched to three sets in each of her first two rounds of this competition, Aliaksandra Sasnovich proved to be no match for the Czech world number 74. Krejcikova routed Sasnovich 6-3, 6-1 to continue her march, both in the tournament and on the rankings.

Because Krejcikova is currently at her career-best ranking of 74th in the world, and with a semifinal appearance here at the very least that is expected to change for the better again.

In fact such was her clinical display, Sasnovich never had a chance. Krejcikova broke her opponent twice in the first set to take a 4-1 lead and while she dropped serve next game, the Czech pushed Sasnovich into a corner with another break of serve in the ninth game.

And it got even easier when she won five games in a row in the second set to wrap up the match.

This win followed victories against Harmony Tan and Greet Minnen, both of which took her three sets.
