Novak Djokovic v Daniil Medvedev Head to Head
There have been six previous meetings between Djokovic and Medvedev before this and the Serb has won four of them. Their last match came earlier this year at the ATP Cup where Djokovic needed three sets to get past Medvedev. Medvedev’s twin wins had come at the Monte-Carlo Masters and Cincinnati Open last season.

Djokovic Brushes Aside Schwartzman
It turned out to be an easy victory in the end for Djokovic who had started off as an overwhelming favourite in his opening tie against debutant Diego Scwhartzman. Djokovic won 6-3, 6-2 in an hour and 18 minutes to kick-start his campaign for a sixth title win at the ATP Finals.
Interestingly, it was Schwartzman who drew the first blood when he broke Djokovic in the third game of the opening set to take a 2-1 lead. Unfortunately, however, that was all it needed to shake Djokovic off whatever reverie he might have been at the start as he went on to break back immediately, and then made it a second break in the eighth game of the set.
And once he had served out for the set, the mountainous task looked to have gotten steeper for the Argentine.
It got worse for Schwartzman when Djokovic then opened the second set with another break of serve, and then doubled his advantage in the fifth game. There was no returning for the first-time qualifier from being down 5-1 and while he managed to hold serve next game, Djokovic completed an easy victory soon.
The bigger tests lie ahead for the world number one but the early Vienna Open ouster looks to be behind him.

Medvedev Zooms Past Zverev
Zverev might have had a few off-court issues coming into most of his tournaments over the last few weeks but that isn’t to say his form suggested too much was affecting his tennis on the court.
Medvedev, on the other hand, was coming off a title win at the Paris Masters, but it was only his first real sign of excellence in form in recent times. There had been a US Open semifinal appearance before that but since then Medvedev was 3-4 on win-loss across four tournaments.
Which is why when Medvedev made short work of Zverev in his first match, it looked like the tables had turned drastically. The Russian world number four was in imperious touch as he routed Zverev 6-3, 6-4, only his second career straight-set win over the German. Zverev had come into the match leading him 5-1 on head to head.
And interestingly, much like the Djokovic-Schwartzman encounter, it took an early break of serve for Zverev to hustle Medvedev up. He broke back the world number seven immediately, saved five break-points in the next game before earning himself a second break of serve in the sixth game of the set.
That was enough for Medvedev to wrap up the opening set before he got himself another break late in the second set to wrap up the match. And the kind of form he showed he was in, Medvedev could prove to be a thorn in the world number’s one flesh.
Djokovic v Medvedev Prediction and Tip
Djokovic is 4/9 to win this which shouldn’t be too surprising but we think the match will be a lot closer than those odds suggest. In fact, judging by how Medvedev went about his business in his first match, we could be looking at the two best players in the tournament here, and a three-setter could be in the offing.
