Andy Murray made it two wins in two matches as he swept past Cameron Norrie in straight sets in the Battle of the Brits competition.

Played in Roehampton, the former world number one, was a 6-4, 7-6 (5) winner over Norrie in his second match of the tournament after having gotten past Dan Evans in his previous match.

Murray had earlier gotten past Britain’s number one, Evans 7-6 (5), 6-4, in a match which saw the latter lose his temper and nerve to finish second.

In his first tournament since having played at the Cologne Open earlier this year, with a pelvic injury keeping him away, Murray has looked sharp in both his matches so far at this exhibition competition.

The Battle of the Brits has already seen two previous editions, both of which were played during the tennis break due to the pandemic.

Murray is aiming to be fully fit in the lead-up to the Australian Open, the new season’s opening Grand Slam and will hope to play in the competitions to be played in Melbourne in its leadup as well.

The scoring system in the tournament sees players win three points for a victory over an opponent ranked in the top 250 and two points for that against an opponent ranked outside that rank. There’s also a point to be won for taking a set off an opponent despite losing the match.

The men’s singles draw has Murray lead the table with six points, which is the same as Jack Draper. Draper lost his opening match but defeated Norrie and Jay Clarke in his next two encounters.

The final day of this Battle of the Brits is expected to be played on Wednesday.
