Matteo Berrettini v Alexander Bublik Head to Head

The two have never faced each other at tour level. But on the Challenger circuit, Berrettini won the pair’s only meeting in straight sets at the Istanbul Challenger in 2017.

Berrettini Eyeing Fourth Career Title

Matteo Berrettini is living up to the billing as the tournament’s top seed. The powerful Italian has been tearing the cover off the ball this week after a pair of comprehensive wins.

In his first outing, he dispatched the Turkish wildcard Ergi Kirkin 6-0 6-4 in just 56 minutes, firing 8 aces and winning 24 out of 26 first serve points.

Berrettini’s dominance showed no signs of abating, as he beat Bulgaria’s Dimitar Kuzmanov 6-2 6-3. Once more, his serving numbers, particularly his first delivery, was over 90% (won 26 out of 28 points). He is keen on adding another trophy in his cabinet, and is wary of the threat of his next opponent Alexander Bublik.

The world number ten has confessed the courts in Antalya are playing very slow and it is important not to be passive. With his big serve and monstrous forehand he is hopeful of winning his first hard court title in Antalya.

Bublik Primed To Thwart The Top Seed

The general consensus is that Alexander Bublik will perhaps never reach his full potential. But if Bublik keeps his head down and keeps winning tennis matches, maybe we would need to re-visit our half baked opinions.

The 23-year-old Kazakh is as unpredictable as they come on tour, and he is still searching for his first tour-level title.

Bublik has played his way into contention in Antalya where he will meet the top seed Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinals on Monday.

To get there, the two-time ATP tour runner-up beat Salvatore Caruso with embarrassing ease. However, he overcame a stern test in his next outing against Tristan Lamasine. He saved seven out of eight break points against the Frenchman and earned himself four breaks of serve to advance.

Berrettini v Bublik Prediction and Tip

This should be a barometer to see where Berrettini’s game is at. But with Bublik we are not sure which version will turn up. He has a bit flamboyance about him and we might be seeing the underarm serves coming through. While this a match that will be dominated by serve, perhaps we should expect a very narrow win for the Italian top seed.

Tip: Berrettini to win in three sets: 4/5 (bet365)
