This will be the second meeting between the 35-year-old Isner and the 20-year-old Korda, with the latter winning their only contest in the second round of the French Open in 2020.

Isner Overpowers Monteiro

World No. 25 John Isner began his Delray Beach campaign in typical Isner-style as he landed 22 aces to defeat Brazilian left-hander Thiago Monteiro 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).

Playing for the first-time since that Round-of-64 exit at Roland Garros last year, Isner looked in good touch as he landed 73% (44 of 66) of his first serves and won 85% (41 of 48) of them. He also won 50% of his second serve points and didn’t allow a single break point in the entire match.

His opponent allowed four break point opportunities with Isner capitalizing on one of them to win the contest in an hour and 34 minutes.

A 15-time winner on the tour, Isner, who got a bye in the first round, is looking for his first title in Florida.

The 2018 Wimbledon semifinalist, who had a 10-10 singles record in 2020, will be pleased with the win on Sunday and will hope to carry that form against Korda on Monday.

Korda Continues To Impress

After making a huge impact at Roland Garros in 2020, where he reached the fourth round of the tournament as a qualifier, World No. 119 Sebastian Korda has continued to impress in 2021, marching into the quarterfinals at Delray Beach.

Fighting back from a set down, Korda upset fifth seed American Tommy Paul 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the second round of the tournament on Sunday.

Son of former Czech star Petr Korda, Korda showed nerves of steel as he saved nine of 11 break points, while converting five of six in the Round of 16 match that last 2 hours and nine minutes.

One of the rising young stars of American tennis, Korda had begun the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over South Korea’s Soonwoo Kwon on Friday.

Isner v Korda Prediction and Tip

Both have started off well and so it promises to be an exciting contest. Expect Korda to put up a fight, but Isner’s experience should help him avenge his French Open defeat. He should win in two closely contested sets.

Tip: Isner to win in straight sets: 13/8 (bet365)
