Albert Ramos-Vinolas v Blake Mott Head to Head

This will be the first meeting between the 33-year-old Spaniard, and the Australian, who is nine years his junior.

Experienced Ramos-Vinolas Hopes to End Disappointing Run

Ramos-Vinolas has won two ATP career titles, the Swedish Open in 2016, and the Swiss Open three years later, and he has been in six other finals. All but one of those were on clay, his preferred surface, and it is a surprise that he has never progressed beyond the second round of the French Open, despite numerous attempts.

In fact, his best result in a Grand Slam came in Melbourne three years ago when he reached the third round.

He has been ranked in the top 20 but has now slipped down to 46 in the world rankings.

This will be his first competitive match of 2021, and he will be looking for an upturn in form after a disappointing end to last season. After losing in the first round of the US Open, he only won two matches after that, first round encounters at the French and Sardinia Open events.

His last match was at the Paris Masters in November where he was beaten in the first round by Marcus Giron of America. He lost the first set, but then levelled the match, before his game deserted him in the third set, dropping his serve three times.

Mott Back to Tennis after Career Break

Mott competes on the ITF tour where he has won a single tournament, at Launceston in 2016, and been in seven other finals. All but one of those was on home soil in Australia. He enjoyed a career high ranking in 2017 when he was 220 in the world, and made the main draw at that year’s Australian Open after qualifying.

However. later that year he became disillusioned with the sport and, like his compatriot Ashleigh Barty, decided to take a career break.

He returned after two years having rediscovered his passion, but has yet to achieve anything like the success that Barty has enjoyed since her return.

Sadly, for him, he will not be featuring in this year’s Australian Open. He entered the qualifying competition in the Middle east but fell at the first hurdle, beaten in straight sets by the Swede Elias Ymer.

Ramos-Vinolas v Mott Prediction and Tip

There is nothing in Mott’s record to suggest that this should be anything more than a gentle work-out for the experienced Spaniard. He may be a little ring rusty after the weeks in isolation, but should win with ease.

Tip: Ramos-Vinolas to win: 1/2 (bet365)
