Frances Tiafoe v Corentin Moutet Head to Head

This will be the third meeting between the two players. Both their previous meetings took place recently in October 2020.

They are currently tied 1-1 on head-to-head meetings. Frances Tiafoe’s victory over Moutet is the more recent one of the two—it was a straight sets win that came in the Astana Open on an indoor hard court.

On the other hand, Corentin Moutet’s win was also a straight sets victory. That win came in the Sardinia Open on a clay court.

Tiafoe Looking To Bounce Back

Tiafoe, the 2018 ATP Delray Beach champion, was hoping to capitalize on his favorites tag in the American tournament but suffered a shock upset at the hands of Cameron Norrie in the quarters.

He had a strong start in the tournament, defeating Donald Young in straight sets in the first round and ousting Bjorn Fratangelo with a dominant third set display. Both displays placed the American as one of the bookies’ favorites for the Delray Beach title, only for Norrie to flip the script.

The Brit, having come into their encounter as the underdog, achieved a bagel in the first set to the astonishment of the American crowd. Tiafoe may have come back in the second set, but Norrie was clinical in the third, needing just a single converted break point in that set to gift him the tie.

Although a quarterfinal berth is nothing to be ashamed of, Tiafoe will know that he could have reached further in the tournament, especially given his circumstances.

With the Australian Open on the horizon, a good run in this tournament will definitely act as a great precursor for the grand slam.

Moutet To Start 2021 As He Did 2020?

Moutet had a mixed bag of a season in 2020, especially considering his results towards the end of the year. However, he’d started the year strongly, which is perfectly illustrated by his run to the final in Doha after coming into the tournament as a qualifier.

He defeated players like Milos Raonic and Stan Wawrinka in that run to the final but failed at the final hurdle to a resolute Andrey Rublev.

He also reached the quarter-finals in Cordoba in early February, which, at the moment, signaled that the then 20-year-old was a player to watch. Sadly, he never lived up to such expectations and struggled for form after tennis returned post-hiatus.

His last five tournaments of the year yielded three first-round eliminations and two second-round eliminations. With such form, he was definitely happy to see the end of 2020 like most people around the world.

However, 2020 saw him improve on his hard-court record, something that he can take as a positive as he gears up for a grueling couple of weeks in Melbourne.

Tiafoe v Moutet Prediction and Tip

Tiafoe has the perfect opportunity to bounce back from the Delray Beach Open. He fares better on hard courts in comparison to Moutet and, barring any bizarre slip-ups, should be able to control this match from the onset.

Tip: Tiafoe To Win: 1/2 (bet365)
