Marie Bouzkova v Aliona Bolsova Head to Head
Their only previous encounter came in the qualifiers of the 2018 Monterrey Open which Bouzkova won easily 6-1, 6-2.

While former US Open winner Samantha Stosur’s best days look to be way behind her, Bouzkova’s performance in her opening round encounter against the experience of her Aussie opponent would have been a solid boost.
In a match lasting just one hour, Bouzkova started off steadily, faced a couple of break-points but once she found her groove, there was no looking back. Stosur had those chances on Bouzkova’s serve at 2-1 but little would she have known she wouldn’t win another game in the entire match.
Bouzkova held on to level things out at 2-2 and then won 10 games in a row to complete the rout.
This follows an inconsistent year in 2020 for Bouzkova where she looked to have started off well with a final appearance at the Monterrey Open, made the quarterfinal in Lexington and third round at the Cincinnati Open but crashed out in what followed after that.
A solid performance like this to begin with should boost her chances against 103rd-ranked opponent.

Bolsova Romps Past Raina
If Bouzkova needed just an hour and the loss of two games in her opener, Bolsova was on court for a couple of minutes lesser and dropped just an extra game in her first round win against India’s Ankita Raina. And there was another remarkable coincidence.
Bolsova dropped her serve in the fifth game to fall 2-3 behind but much like how Bouzkova’s match went, she then proceeded to win all the remaining games to finish off the encounter 6-3, 6-0.
Interestingly, like her opponent, Bolsova had also made it to the final of a tournament last season, albeit on the ITF circuit, while second appearances at the US Open and Italian Open were her best performances on the WTA level.
