Zverev Looking To Start 2021 On Strong Note

It has been an up and down last couple seasons for rising German star Alexander Zverev, who has won the Tour Finals, been a Grand slam finalist, won Masters 1000s but also had several disappointing losses, and separated from two coaches in Ivan Lendl and David Ferrer, and seen other off court drama on the personal front.

Amidst all this, he has managed to keep his presence on the tour as a force to reckon with at all tournaments and recorded big wins from time to time. The German will be hoping for a better start and a more consistent season in 2021.

With an 0-3 record at the ATP Cup in 2020, Zverev will hope for a better run and start strong and look to avenge his 2020 defeat here to Shapovalov.

Shapovalov Positive in Djokovic Defeat

Denis Shapovalov will be hoping for 2021 to be the year where he furthers all the promise he has exhibited and moves up the rankings further. He has definitely shown what he is capable of, with strong runs at tournaments and encouraging results at the same time as well.

However, the Canadian has lacked in consistency and prevailing in the big moments. Up against the number one player in the world Novak Djokovic in his opener, Shapovalov looked in excellent touch and put up a fighting display pushing the Serb to the brink.

In a match where Shapovalov matched Djokovic point for point, it was the Serb’s experience and brilliance in the big moments that saw him through in two very tight sets, 7-5, 7-5. The Canadian will be proud of his performance, but will regret being unable to win the big points and hoping to up his performance further tomorrow in Canada’s next encounter.

Zverev v Shapovalov Prediction and Tip

This is an exciting battle between two powerful strikers of the ball.  Zverev has of late had a lot on and off the court to deal with and it will be interesting to see how he begins his season. Shapovalov looked in very good touch in the opener and will hope to continue his form into this match. A close match; but expect Shapovalov to prevail in a decider.

Tip: Shapovalov to win in three sets: 4/1 (bet365)
