Jannik Sinner v Aljaz Bedene Head to Head

There have been two matches played between Sinner and Bedene before this and surprisingly, the latter has won both of them. The first came at the 2019 Umag Open on clay and that was followed by another one on the hard courts of a Challenger competition in Orleans. Things have obviously changed a lot for Sinner since then who went on to win a Next Gen Finals title and then one at Sofia last season.

Sinner Scythes Past Vukic

After featuring in a couple of sets of exhibition tennis in the lead-up to this tournament, Sinner had no worries getting past local lad Aleksandar Vukic, whom he defeated 6-2, 6-4 to seal his third round berth.

In both the sets, Sinner established the early advantage by breaking Vukic in the very first game. In the first set, the Italian broke his opponent for the second time to seal that advantage and while he was unable to double that advantage in the second set, it was all that was needed to get past the 195th-ranked Aussie.

Sinner had earlier lost both sets in that exhibition match, one to Filip Krajinovic and then to Novak Djokovic but coming into this season with approval from the world number one himself of being one to watch in the future, the world number 36 can be expected to put up quite a show here.

He entered the year with a title win in Sofia under his belt, the last ATP tournament he had played in 2020, making this victory over Vukic his sixth in a row.

Bedene Sprints Past Sweeney

After a slug-fest of a match-up with Yasutaka Uchiyama in the first round, Bedene did not waste too much time in getting over Dane Sweeny in their second round encounter. Bedene won 6-0, 6-4 against his Aussie opponent whose career-best ranking is yet to break into the top 700.

The match lasted an hour and five minutes with majority of that spent in the second set after Bedene had raced through the first with three breaks of serves. He then went 2-0 up in the second as well, before Sweeney finally managed to put one on board.

From there on, Sweeney held his serve, even getting a couple of break-points but Bedene came through in straight sets to set up this meeting with Sinner.

These two results will please Bedene who finished the previous season on a 10-12 win-loss record.

Sinner v Bedene Prediction and Tip

Sinner should boss this contest, having already played a couple of days to remove any sort of rustiness. A straight-set win can be expected as a result.

Tip: Sinner to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
