Angelique Kerber v Ons Jabeur Head to Head

The two have never faced each other in a competitive match before. This will be the first-ever encounter between the 33-year-old German and the 26-year-old Tunisian.

Kerber Starts 2021 Campaign With A Win

Three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber, playing in her first WTA match of the year, needed a third set to overcome Czech Katerina Siniakova.

Break points were the order of the match, especially for the German who got a total of 29 break points, although she only converted six of them giving her a conversion rate of 29%.

In fact, the match started with a flurry of break points for both players. Kerber got three in the first game of the match, managing to convert the last of those, and rescued a break point in her subsequent game.

She wasn’t able to capitalize on any of her break points in that set until the last game of the set when she ultimately broke Siniakova to claim that set.

Siniakova, however, pushed her in the second set, which turned out to be a wild affair, to say the least. The two pushed each other, but the last game—in which Siniakova rescued four break points and Kerber saved set point thrice—tilted the Czech’s way, forcing an inevitable third set.

The third set, however, was dominated by the German. She broke Siniakova thrice in succession to go 5-1 up, and eventually won the set 6-3.

Jabeur Dominates Blinkova

Ons Jabeur needed just 52 minutes to take care of business against Russia’s Anna Blinkova in the tournament’s first round.

She won in straight sets, conceding only one game in both sets, and she also limited her Russian opponent to a singular break point. The Tunisian capitalized on 5/7 of the break points that she got and also almost doubled the number of points that Blinkova got in that match.

Her serve was on point as well. She notched a total of eight aces and won more than 70% of both her first and second serve points.

That win gives her a 3-1 record for the year, and she’ll be hoping to go 4-1 with a win against Kerber, which will grant her a spot in the quarter-finals.

Kerber v Jabeur Prediction and Tip

Jabeur comes in as the favorite, priced at 1/2. However, we think that Kerber is undervalued in this match. Backing her to win a set, or force a really close affair, seems like a great value option and forms the basis of the pick below.

Tip: Match to have three sets: 6/4 (bet365)
