Reilly Opelka v Marton Fuscovics Head to Head

After Indifferent Start To Season, Opelka Looking For Indoor Success

Big serving America Reilly Opelka has been in good touch over the last couple seasons winning two ATP title and reaching a career high of world number 31. Currently ranked number 38 in the world, the post Covid pandemic hiatus was not overly friendly to the American as he did not hit much good form after making the final eight at the Western & Southern Open right after the break.

2021 was not off to the best of starts for Opelka either, with an early loss at the ATP 250 in Melbourne followed by a five set epic defeat to his good friend American Taylor Fritz over at the Australian Open second round. Despite being vocal and expressing dissent about quarantines in Australia and pay cuts in Miami, the American has mentioned the desire to perform at a better level this season and continue to be more consistent and move up the rankings.

With the indoor season well suited to the big serve, Opelka will be hoping to make inroads here and over the next few weeks culminating at the Miami Masters, before moving over to the more challenging clay court season in Europe. With potential next round matches against Roberto Bautista Augt and Alexander Zverev, the American will be hoping for a strong start in the opener.

In Good Touch At The Qualifiers, Fucsovics Aims At Good Outing

Hungarian Marton Fucsovics was ranked just outside the top thirty in the world right before the pandemic, but indifferent form in 2020 has seen him drop out of the top 50 in the ATP rankings.  While he did well to make the round of 16 at both the Australian and French Opens in 2020, he did not manage to keep the consistency across the season that one often hopes to see from him.

The 2021 season for Fucsovics was not much to write home about with round of 32 losses at the Melbourne ATP 250 and the Australian Open. An epic five set win in the second round against Stan Wawrinka in the opening Grand Slam of the year was monumental however and one that will surely stand out and add to his confidence.

What will not bode so well is that in the next round  Fucsovics was up against big serving Canadian Milos Raonic and did not do the best with the Canadian’s serve, something similar to what he will be up against in the opener here. With a stacked draw here at Rotterdam, Fucsovics had to come through the qualifiers where he did well to win all his matches in straight sets and that will have done wonders to his confidence.

Opelka v Fuscovics Prediction and Tip

This promises to be a close encounter between the Opelka serve and the all round Fucsovics game. Both players are in search of a good week after a none too bright swing Down Under. It will come down to how well Opelka serves and how well Fucsovics tackles the big serve.

Expect Opelka to prevail in a tight three-setter.

Tip: Opelka To Win In Three Sets: 15/4(bet365)
