Timea Babos vs Clara Tauson Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Tauson in with a Brilliant Win

Clara Tauson, the 18-year-old Danish girl may not be that well known on the tour at the moment but in all likelihood, that is about to change soon.

With a win-loss record of 12-3 and two ITF singles titles already in 2021, she is making waves on the lower circuits and looks to establish herself on the WTA Tour too. Before heading to Lyon, Tauson featured in the $25,000 ITF event in Germany where she beat Simona Waltert in the final to claim her 9th ITF title.

The Dane had a similar run in the UAE in January, where she dispatched Viktorija Golubic in the final in three sets. As a former Junior World No. 1 and the winner of the Australian Open Girls Singles, Tauson has been a tennis prodigy in the making.

In Lyon, she started as a qualifier and battled to reach the main draw. In the opener, she met the top seed Ekaterina Alexandrova, whom she defeated 6-3, 6-4 in absolute clinical performance.

This is Tauson’s first WTA event since the Australian Open. In fact, with the exception of the Grand Slams, the young Dane has confined herself to the ITF circuit in a bid to build some form.

Babos Looking to Tap into Her Doubles Charm

The 27-year-old Babos is currently World No. 6 on the doubles circuit while on the singles, she is ranked in the early 100s. Her form this season has been less than eventful, comprising early-round exits in the Australian Open Series.

The Hungarian started her season in the Gippsland Trophy where she fell in the second round to Caroline Garcia. In the Melbourne Slam, she started as a qualifier and managed to reach the main draw after three grueling games. However, she made it as far as the second round before losing to Anastasia Potapova.

In the Phillip Island Trophy – her most recent tournament – she was beaten by Greet Minnen in the opening match. As for her run in Lyon so far, she survived a three-setter against Varvara Gracheva with 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

Babos hasn’t looked particularly threatening as a singles player in the last couple of seasons. The majority of her runs have ended in the early rounds, many times to lowly ranked players.

Babos vs Tauson Prediction and Tip

Babos has the experience on her side but she is not in a good form. Tauson, by contrast, is bustling with raw talent and momentum. The Dane has the upper hand here and can topple the Hungarian but it will not be easy.

Expect this to be a long, dragged-out affair.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
