Barbora Krejcikova vs Anastasia Potapova Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the WTA Tour.

Potapova, A Prodigy in the Making

Anastasia Potapova may be just 19 years old but she has already achieved more than what other players could hope for at her age.

Her first major feat was winning the Wimbledon Juniors in 2016. After turning pro, she rose to prominence in 2018 when she was the runner-up in the Moscow River Cup and Tashkent Open. This year, she reached yet another final – this time, in the women’s doubles at the Phillip Island Trophy with Anna Blinkova.

At the same time, it hasn’t been an entirely smooth, sensational journey for Potapova. There have been ups and downs but she has shown glimpses of brilliance on numerous occasions.

Case in point, she reached the third round at the Australian Open 2021 before falling to Serena Williams. At the same time, she fell in the qualifying rounds in Doha last week.

That said, the young Russian hasn’t let these losses perturb her in Dubai. She started off with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Laura Siegemund. Then, she beat the 11th seeded American and US Open finalist Madison Keys in the second round in straight sets.

In the third round, she met the Swiss No. 1 Belinda Bencic and moved past her 6-1, 2-6, 7-5 to deliver one of the best wins of her career. Clearly, she is not a player to be taken lightly while she may be World No. 88 right now, she is clearly playing like she is in the top 10.

Krejcikova, a Prominent Doubles Player

Barbora Krejcikova may not have fared that well on the singles circuit but as a doubles player, she is clearly formidable. She is a three-time Australian Open Mixed Doubles champion, winning the title back to back from 2019 to 2021. Moreover, she also reached the women’s doubles final in Melbourne this year but had to settle for the runners-up cup.

The Czech has also won the women’s doubles at the French Open and Wimbledon in the past.

In the singles disciple, however, she is still looking to make waves and move up in the pecking order.

So far this year, the best she has done is reaching the quarterfinal at the Grampians Trophy. Last week, just like Potapova, she too fell in the qualifying rounds in WTA Doha.

Last year, Krejcikova reached the fourth round in the French Open and the semifinal at the Ladies Linz Open. Plus, in Dubai, she has been quite brilliant so far. Starting with a straight-set win over Maria Sakkari, she then moved on to defeat Jelena Ostapenko and Svetlana Kuznetsova, without as much as dropping a set.

All things considered, the 25-year-old has got quite a bit of winning experience on her side and is coming in with a lot of momentum.

Potapova vs Krejcikova Prediction and Tip

Potapova is young and still finding her way on the tour, but she has proven that experience may not necessarily be the deciding factor. On the other hand, Krejcikova is looking to make a name for herself on the singles circuit.

Both the players are heading in this match on the back of some pretty impressive wins. Expect this to be a long, dragged out affair that can swing either way.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
