Elisabetta Cocciaretto vs Lauren Davis Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Davis Delivering Her Best Run in a While

Lauren Davis is currently enjoying what is her best performance in a WTA event in well over a year. The last time she reached the quarterfinal on the tour was back in the Hobart International last year.

Since then, the 27-year-old has featured in several events but her end results were a litany of early-round defeats. In fact, she has never made it past her opening-round matches – qualifying or main draw – in more than seven months. Before travelling to Mexico, Davis featured in the Australian Open series where she lost her first-round ties in the Grampians Trophy, the Melbourne Slam, and the Phillip Island Trophy.

So needless to say, it is certainly a delight to watch the American thrive so well in Guadalajara who started as a qualifier and against all odds, has reached the semifinal.

Davis started in the main draw against the German Anna-Lena Friedsam whom she beat 7-5, 6-4. In the next round, she dispatched the number 6 seed Danka Kovinic 6-2, 6-2 in another clinical performance.

The qualifier is looking to reach her first singles final since the 2017 Auckland Open.

Cocciaretto Looking For Another Upset

The 20-year-old Cocciaretto is also sailing high on confidence in Mexico after beating the top seed Nadia Podoroska 7-5, 7-5 in the second round. That win over the Argentinean was one of the biggest ones of her young career as she now sets her sights on the title.

The Italian too started as a qualifier and in the opening round, she beat the Xiyu Wang in straight sets.

Currently ranked World No. 134, may people may just as easily undermine Cocciaretto but by her standards, she has been performing quite well of late. In the Australian Open, she reached the main draw after winning all three of her qualifying matches. A few weeks before, she had a similar run in the ITF $100,000 event in Dubai where she made it to the second round.

Purely in terms of wins, Cocciaretto has had a significantly better run than Davis in the last year or so. Last season, she reached the final of the WTA 125K event in Prague, losing in the final to Kristina Kucova. She was also a quarterfinalist in the Palermo Open, where she also reached the final as a doubles player with Martina Trevisan.

Davis v Cocciaretto Prediction and Tip

Davis may have the momentum but what she lacks is winning momentum – something that Cocciaretto seems to have in abundance at the moment.

This will be a demanding match for both the players and can very well swing either way.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
