Medvedev ended 2020 on a strong note with victories at the Paris Masters and the ATP Tour Finals In London. This was followed by an unbeaten run earlier this month at the ATP Cup and a strong run at the Australian Open before a somewhat disappointing straight sets loss to world number one Novak Djokovic.
A first round loss last week at the ATP 500 in Rotterdam to Dusan Lajovic made one wonder if we were going to see a decline in form from Medvedev, similar to mid 2020. But, it looks like the trend has been stalled here at Marseille.
The Russian looked good in his second round (post-bye) win against Egor Gerasimov , setting up a potential cracker of a final eight against rising Italian Jannik Sinner. Medvedev was clinical against the Italian winning 6-2,6-4 in just over an hour and with Stefanos Tsitsipas out of the tournament now, looks like a clear favorite to add another title to his tally.

Ebden Singles’ Career Revival
Australia’s Matthew Ebden, aged 33, was once in the top 40 of the ATP rankings, but two seasons of injuries has seen him drop to just within the top 300 in the world now.
The young 2021 season thus far has shown him coming back to his ways, as he has seemed fit to play both singles and doubles and did well to make the final eight at the ATP 250 in Singapore last month.
Ebden advanced into his second quarterfinal of the season here this week, with a surprise victory against highly talented Finn Emil Ruusuvuori.
Up against 2018 Marseille champion Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinals, Ebden looked like bowing out when the Russian took the first set 6-4 and looked in good form hitting big forehands. But, the Aussie clawed his way into the match taking the second set 6-4 and was in total control through the decider, winning 6-2 and making the final four of an ATP tournament after a considerable period of time.
Medvedev v Ebden Prediction and Tip
Ebden has been on a good run this week, with a noteworthy win over Karen Khachanov especially. But, Medvedev will have too many tools for the Aussie and this should be relatively straightforward for the Russian. Expect a straight sets Medvedev win here.
