Alexander Bublik v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

The pair have played three times before, and Bublik leads their head-to-head series by two matches to one. Nishioka won in Shenzhen in 2018, but Bublik has beaten him twice in Singapore since then, most recently a few weeks ago, when he won in straight sets for the loss of just five games.

Bublik with Two Finals Already in 2021

Bublik has enjoyed a very strong start, reaching two ATP finals.

His year began in Antalya, Turkey where he got to the final, but, unfortunately for him he was then forced to scratch with a back injury, and could not line-up against Alex de Minaur.

Then after losing to Dusan Lajovic in the  second round in Melbourne, he moved on to Singapore, where he again reached the final, defeating Nishioka on the way. On that occasion he lost then to the Australian Alexei Popyrin.

He then had a big win over the world number seven, Alexander Zverev of Germany, in the first round of the Rotterdam Open, before he was beaten in the second round by the American, Tommy Paul.

And last week in Doha he suffered another second round defeat, this time to Roberto Batuista-Agut of Spain.

Nishioka Scratching for Form

Nishioka, the Japanese number two, has not played a lot of tennis so far in 2021.

He began his season playing for Japan in the ATP Cup, but lost both his matches, beaten by Guido Pella of Argentina, and Andrey Rublev, of Russia.

Then, at the Australian Open, he suffered a disappointing defeat in the first round to Pedro Martinez of Spain. Nishioka won the first set on a tight break, but then his form evaporated, and the Spaniard ran away with the next three sets.

He found some form in Singapore, beating two Americans, Michael Mmoh and Maxime Cressy, before Bublik put a decisive end to his hopes.

Last week he took part in the event in Marseille, but again he did not get beyond the first round stage, suffering a straight sets defeat at the hands of Emil Ruusuvouri of Finland, the world 87.

Bublik v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

Bublik is in excellent form so far this season and he is playing an opponent he defeated easily just a few weeks ago.

A repeat of that victory is very much on the cards.

Tip: Bublik to win in straight sets: 10/11 (bet365)
